TO NOTE THIS SUMMER! - Just announced: St. Marcel Du Périgord is hosting a “marché gastronomique” on Friday 13th July, Friday, 10th August, & Friday, 24th August:
This is a bit like a medieval banquet in the village square. – If it is as good as last year it will be great fun!

About this location
The Dordogne region
The department of the Dordogne is in the Aquitaine region of south-west France (Le Manoir is approximately 60 miles inland from Bordeaux in an easterly direction). The Dordogne is famous for its wines such as Pecharment and Monbazillac; its food, including duck, foie gras and truffles. Exciting visits include the prehistoric caves at Lascaux and, of course, the Dordogne valley itself with its spectacular scenery and many dramatic and beautiful chateaux.
You will enjoy some of the best sights if you take a canoe down the Dordogne.
The Dordogne area is renowned for its long hot summers, the warm and pleasant weather usually extending from April to late October.
St. Marcel du Perigord
There is just so much to do in summer, it often overwhelms our guests, & they unwind by the swimming pool!
Your first Sunday will often be spent visiting the market at ISSIGEAC, a medieval bastide town which is beautiful in its own right, but with the added attraction of a vibrant Sunday Market.
The kids will love Castelnaud, perched high over the River Dordogne: It offers the them a medieval war museum.
Nearby is my favourite Chateau; Chateau Milandes; The home of Josephine Baker, an American Cabaret artist who adopted a child from each continent. This is where they lived, & the chateau is a museum about her.
There is so much that you will not want to miss! – Where to stop!
You must visit Domme, & Sarlat.
Finally, I nearly forgot! – If you are here in July & August the Marche Nocturnes are good fun.
They are a bit like a mediaeval banquet. – You sit at communal tables & choose food from the many stalls offering cooked local produce.

"a brilliant place, wonderful for families"
we had a wonderful family holiday at la manoir. the accommodation was clean, well presented and suitably stocked with all mod cons and utensils needed for a relaxing stay. peter and nancy are wonderful hosts and i cant thank them highly enough. the facilities including the pool and play barns were ideal for entertaining our 14 month old even when the weather was not at its best. la manoir is ideally placed to explore the dordogne and the local villages and we had a fabulous holiday

"Another great stay...."
Having stayed in Le Pigeonnier last year we decided to treat ourselves and stay in La Porcherie this year even though there were only two of us.
This property is extremely spacious and, of course, benefits from all the amenities afforded to all the properties at Le Manoir. Free wifi, large swimming pool, games room etc.
Peter and Nancy were, as ever, perfect hosts. Ensuring that you have everything you need including ordering fresh croissants and bread from the local bakers to be delivered every morning.
La Porcherie has a very large lounge/dining room as well as a breakfast table in the kitchen giving you plenty of room to spread out and feel comfortable.
The shower in the seperate shower room is perfect for waking you up in the morning or for refreshing yourself if you've been sunbathing on the secluded upper terrace. Something which we did frequently.
Fully equipped with everything you need, including enough cutlery and crockery to cater for everybody staying in the surrounding gites, it also has the essentials of a dishwasher and washing machine.
Would we stay here again?
Without a doubt.
La Porcherie is a great base for exploring the surrounding countryside whilst having enough room to make yourself feel comfortably at home when you return.
