The Normandy region

The region of Lower Normandy is lush, green and mainly agricultural. It offers beautiful summer weather with temperatures often around a perfect 25C. There is much to do in the region. You are never far from the coast with its beautiful sandy beaches. Granville is a very pretty seaside town where you will find fantastic seafood and you can also visit the Christian Dior museum. The UNESCO world heritage site of Mont St Michel is in the Manche region and the capital of the region is St Lo where you will find the National Haras. Normandy is the horse capital of France, where the cooler climate compared to the south is ideal for breeding and training. There are many WW2 sites in the area including, Arromanches with the D-Day museum and circular cinema, Musee memorial d'Omaha Beach, Musee America Gold Beach, and Musee du Debarquement d'Utah Beach. There is also the wonderful Atlantic Wall Museum in Ouistreham. In Bayeux you can visit the Tapestry which is a 70 metre long depiction of William the Conqueror's invasion of England and the Battle of Hastings. Caen the City of William the Conqueror is about an hour's drive away from the gite.

St Lo

Within short, easy driving distance there are many activities to choose from. Cycling, walking, canoeing and horse riding can be done in the immediate vicinity. Take a short drive to the coast and enjoy local seafood. There is a vast selection of local markets selling wonderful bread, cheese, wine and fresh fruit and vegetables. Perfect for your picnics. The area around our property is mainly agricultural, very peaceful and the best place to base yourself after a day of sightseeing or activity.
