Marine Court – built in 1937 – is an iconic Art Deco residential building, originally designed as an apartment hotel for people seeking a pied-a-terre in St Leonards on Sea. The apartment many of the original 1930’s features, including original door handles, heating panel, kitchen (with ‘50’s additions), and bath room. They have all been restored; with modern adaptations. The South facing windows look directly onto the sea and promenade. On Sunday mornings you will be able to view the yacht club launch directly in front of the windows.
Situated directly on the coast near to Hastings, the building is referred to locally as The Ship, as its design is based on the Queen Mary liner, and looks as though it is at sea when viewed from Hastings Castle area.
The area has a wealth of wonderful castles and historic buildings, including Battle Abbey, site of the battle of Hastings. There are beautiful local nature reserves for walks - including the 1066 coastal walkway, bird watching and scenic views. St Leonards and Hastings has attracted a range of artists, so there are a wide range of galleries, studios and live music venues to cater to all tastes.
Rye, Bexhill - with its restored Art Deco De LA Warr Pavillion, and Winchelsea are all easy to get to from the apartment.
St Leonards-on-Sea is part of Hastings, East Sussex, England, lying immediately to the west of the centre. The original part of the settlement was laid out in the early 19th century as a new town: a place of elegant houses designed for the well-off; it also included a central public garden, a hotel, an archery, assembly rooms and a church, designed by Decimus Burton. Today’s St Leonards has extended well beyond that original design, although the original town still exists within it.
Hastings is located on the coast of East Sussex in England and is famous through its connection with the Norman conquest of England; and also because it became one of the medieval Cinque Ports. Hastings was, for centuries, an important fishing port and has the largest beach-based fishing fleet in England.

Part of what makes this apartment so special is the direct view on the sea and promonade. You could not get closer. It is lovely to view the sea during the day, and watch the moonlight reflected on the sea at night - all from the comfort of your own room!

The East Sussex region
St Leonards and Hastings is known as one of the sunniest parts of the UK, and there are many outdoor activities to get involved with. There are local protected nature reserves which are good for walking, cycling, nature and bird watching. The 1066 coastal walkway provides an amazing view of the area. There are also plenty of sports activities - including those on the water. Golf and Crazy golf can all be found locally.
East Sussex has a wealth of castles and historic buildings, ancient Bodiam Castle and Battle Abbey, to modernist De LAs Warr Pavillion in Bexhill provide great visitor experiences. There is a wide range of cultural activites, art and photograhic galleries, as well as live music in various venues in the area.
We are also lucky to have excellent food and beverage from local farms and vineyards - some of which are open to visits. Fine dining, fine pub food, through to the best fish and chips are easily found throughout St Leonards and Hastings.
St Leonards on Sea
Marine Court has many great local eateries, bars and cafes, including St Clements, Relax, Miki's bar and Smiths. The Lakshmi Mahal for South Indian, and Gurka Chef for Nepalese food are also very popular. Norman road is great for vintage finds, and the Baker Mamonova gallery provides both art and Michaela's wonderful cakes! Hastings has a wide choice of restaurantsand bars - The Dragon Bar in George street is a favourite - with the best fish and chips provided at Maggies at Rock a Nore. Rock a Nore has an refurbished fenicular railway - taking you to the top of East Hill where the views are incredible. The aquarium and fishing museum are well worth the visit and the Jerwood Gallery for art lovers.
St Leonards local architecture is known for the Regency Burton St Leonards development - James and Decimus Burton were known for their buildings in Bloomsbury and Tunbridge Wells. This conservation area is centred around the lovely St Leonards Gardens and has an array of wonderful buildings. In contrast, Marine Court and the sun lounge opposite reflect the modernist movement of the 1930's period and you can find a range of concrete modernist shelters and structures along the seafront.
Norman Rd is know for its antique and mid century modern shops - Skylon and Eras of Style are definitely worth a visit. You will also find Russian Art at the Baker Mamonova Gallery and photogracy at the Lucy Bell Gallery. Hastings Old town also has a great range of antique shops and galleries.
The local yacht club launch from the beach opposite the appartment, and you will see kayak's, wind surfing, canoes and swimmers - all of which you can join if you wish.

"A very comfortable apartment with an amazing sea view."
This apartment is perfect for a couple. It was light and airy with an amazing sea view. The kitchen although small was very well equipped. Would definitely recommend this apartment for its sea views and central location. (Also a comfy bed!!) We had an enjoyable long weekend here. Would come again.

"Comfortable apartment with stunning views"
We had a lovely weekend in Marine Court.We liked the decor ,style and comfort of Moyra's studio especially the flowing hot water from the shower,heated towels following us getting drenched and blown away by the amazing storm that hit Hastings.Afterwards we watched it from the apartment followed by a delicious pizza deliver to us from one of the many characterful restaurants in Marine Court.
We were drawn into the history of the building by Moyra's attention to detail in her studio and really enjoyed its atmosphere.
We loved the local area visiting Pett level as one of our favourite beaches.Will definitely return to Marine Court.
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Marine Court Apartment - the hot water in the building is amazing - we have huge hot water tanks in the basement of the building which looks like the engine room of a ship, very powerful!
