The Jersey region
Jersey is a fascinating island with a diverse history so very different to the UK mainland or indeed France. The Channel Islands are warmed by the gulf stream which helps make them the Sunniest place in Britain.
The beaches are stunning and are great locations for people watching. There are regular food festivals and the now famount Tennerfest eating event in October/November where over 100 restaurants offer specially reduced menus.
Talking of food we are very lucky with the massive range of restaurants serving lots of local produce as well as fresh fish and different food styles from around the world as well as traditional British Fare. The fish market is a must-see in St Helier and a real experience. A delight if you enjoy cooking and lots of things to put on the barbecue too.
The Channel Islands are the only part of Britain to be occupied during the second world war and this is well documented at award winning venues throughout the island. You can visit the Ancient Mont orgueil castle where the atmosphere of times gone past have been recreated. Just 5 minutes walk from us is the Hamptonne Museum that shows farm life in Jersey as it was in the 17th Century. Its so authentic that filming took place here for a famous holywood movie (who's name I forget right now!)
For the younger ones there is a lively nightlife in St Helier with lots of bars and clubs to dance the night away.
St Lawrence, Jersey area
St Lawrence is very much a rural parish and is mainly residential and farming. I believe its one of the most untouched parishes and has lots of country walks and is ideal for cycling too. Regular community events take place in the Parish Hall and there is lots of local life.
