Home description
'Wickets' is greatly enjoyed as a family holiday home. The owner is willing to offer it to others who are prepared to respect it as such.
It lies in a quiet settlement at the foot of a range of charming wooded hills. It is close to the airport yet untroubled by the flight paths. The bungalow is brand new, comfortably furnished and has full air conditioning.
The Island is characterised by it's natural beauty and boasts a dormant volcano and extensive rain forests. Activities include guided walking tours, spear fishing, scuba diving and snorkeling. It's inhabitants are acknowledged to be among the friendliest in the Caribbean. English speaking visitors are especially welcomed.
The colourful town of Basseterre, a firm favourite on the cruise liner circuit, can be easily reached by car or public transport.. A little further away is Frigate Bay which has a beautiful beach fringed by several bars, al fresco restaurants, casinos and a superb golf course.
For cricket enthusiasts the test ground Warner Park can be reached in five minutes.

The Saint Kitts Island region
St. Kitts and Nevis can be seen as a lush tropical paradise that many have compared with the South Pacific, with an intoxicating blend of sunlight, sea air and fantastically abundant vegetation. The North of the Island is dominated by the the sullen, cloud-fringed peak of Mount Liamuiga (pronounced Lee-a-mweega), a dormant volcano covered by dense tropical forest, whilst to the South a rocky road along the narrow peninsular leads to some beautiful secluded beaches. Over a short stretch of water lies Nevis where the ground rises upward into a cloud forest filled with elusive green vervet monkeys and brilliant tropical flowers. For ecotourists, or simply anyone who enjoys stunning natural beauty, St. Kitts and Nevis cannot fail to exceed expectations.
Historically, St. Kitts and Nevis were the pearls of the British Caribbean, rich and enormously important islands that were celebrated throughout Europe. Nevis, the "Queen of the Caribbees," possessed unimaginable wealth from its super-productive sugar industry, while on St. Kitts the impregnable fortress of Brimstone Hill stood as the Gibraltar of the West Indies. In this venerable history is plenty of romance as well, for it was on Nevis that the dashing young Horatio Nelson met, courted, and wedded Fanny Nisbet, all the while attending to the whirling social life of the island's prosperous plantation estates.
Today these islands are esteemed more for their long stretches of sugary sand than for their sugar cane. . The law here holds that no building here may be taller than the surrounding palm trees, and on both St. Kitts and Nevis natural preservation is a major value.
St. Kitts / Monkey Hill area
Basseterre and Charlestown, the islands' capitals, are among the most captivating and picturesque of the Caribbean's colonial harbour towns.
The Basseterre Water Front has a uniquely local flavour with a string of markets ranging from locally made clothes and crafts at Port Zante through stalls that sell local delicacies such as Goat Water and Salt Fish (a breakfast speciality!) to an area where one can buy fresh fish as it is landed.
Followers of test match cricket will be delighted to find that the Warner Park venue is only five minutes away from 'Wickets'.
Visitors to the Brimstone Hill fortress will discover much about the Island's colonial past as will as witnessing the spectacular views from it's vantage point.
Other activities include outstanding hiking through the islands' rain forests, golfing on internationally ranked golf courses, fishing, boating and diving or snorkeling through underwater reefs and unexplored wrecks. There is also an exceptional wealth of historic points of interest, including restored fortresses, haunted plantations, and ancient petroglyphs.
In the midst of all of these attractions are many of the finest and most welcoming plantation inns in the Caribbean. Still largely undiscovered, despite their extraordinary beauty, their remarkable history, and their unmatched charm, St. Kitts & Nevis offer a rare opportunity to visit the "Secret Caribbean."
A recommended way of getting around the island is by a narrow gauge railway that was originally built to transport sugar cane from the fields. It's air-conditioned carriages offer a comfortable and scenic journey covering a great deal of the Island.
Those who prefer Strip-style entertainment may be disappointed, yet the Frigate and Half Moon Bay resort areas offer plenty of nightlife with a distinct local flavour. A favourite pastime is to wander up and down the Frigate Bay sands taking in the variety of restaurants and bars that string along the beach, some offering calypso, soca or reggae music whilst others cater for American / European tastes - the atmosphere changes with every few steps taken. The restaurants interdispersed amongst the bars offer inexpensive and well-cooked local dishes. The nearby half Moon bay boasts large hotels with access to two good casinos and some high quality eating houses.
There are occasional Music festivals and ad hoc calypso nights that attract stars from around the Caribbean.
