� about 2 miles from St Tudy and St Kew, a strikingly handsome, Grade II listed, detached Victorian house with granite mullioned windows and gorgeous long views over its 18 acres of woodland gardens and grounds with well known collection of camellia, rhododendron, magnolia, conifer and other species of plants and trees enthusiastically collected and grown in the last century. Lamellen House is reached by 500 yards of drive. There is an entry in the Domesday Book of a house on the site, the present one having been built in 1849 on the site of its 17th cent. predecessor. Generations of the same family have lived in and loved this very special house. It is part of the Lamellen Estate.

To one side, an indoor heated swimming pool (40� x 20�) with changing room, shower, two loos, kitchen (dishwasher, electric range-style cooker, big American ice-making fridge). Along one side of the pool, tables/chairs shaded by huge indoor grapevine and, outside, sheltered paved patio (table/chairs) and little lawn with Wendy house. Beyond are a parapet and expansive lawns. Two barbecues. All-weather tennis court, 100 yards from the house.

Fine porch into large entrance hall and inner hall which, in typical Victorian style, has a fascinating collection of stuffed birds and animals with two magnificent tigers up the wide sweeping staircase; the entrance hall has toys and doubles as a play area. Cellar for wetsuits and wet weather gear. Two comfy elegant living rooms (one with Beckstein grand piano) with beautiful fireplaces (open fires), mullioned windows with leaded lights and lovely garden views. Dining room with door to garden. Large, fully fitted kitchen (Aga, dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, electric cooker/hob, huge fridge-freezer) with larder. Billiard room (10� x 5� table). Study/dog room with computer, colour printer and French windows to patio. Loo; back lobby for boots/coats.

Upstairs (stairlift), seven bedrooms, most with granite mullioned windows and leaded lights: - Double (6� half-tester bed) with dressing room and en suite bathroom (suite plus hand-shower) which is also en suite (two doors) to:

- Twin (zip-linkable to 6' double) with washbasin

- Double with beautifully carved 5�6" half-tester bed made in 1640, cot area and en suite bathroom (suite)

- Single with fold-out bed and washbasin

- Room with three singles (truckle) and washbasin, best for children

10 TVs/Sky/2 DVDs. Heating and hot water by biomass boiler. Spring water. Within the extensive grounds are the owners� more modest dwelling and The Lodge (P9) at the entrance to the long drive (500 yards away). Damages Deposit �500. Arrival after 3.30pm. An exceptional house.

The Cornwall region

Cornwall�s north coast: from the river Camel north to Bude and on to Morwenstow and the highest cliffs in the West Country, it is a mixture of great cliffs and beaches. Walking (coast path) and bird-friendly cliffs (usually no road near): peregrines possible. Great sand/surf beaches at Polzeath, Trebarwith, Widemouth Bay, Bude and Sandy Mouth; sandy coves at Port Gaverne, Bossiney, Crackington Haven, Duckpool, and others less accessible; Rock, also sandy, is the place for watersports, including sailing on the Camel estuary; very fine golf course (St Enodoc); mini-fjords at Port Quin and Boscastle. Port Isaac is very pretty round its cliff-enclosed harbour.

The well-worth-riding Camel Trail cycleway (bicycles for hire) follows the river Camel from Bodmin Moor to Padstow. Pencarrow is a beautiful house with wonderful garden. Tintagel has a ruined castle (King Arthur�s?) on a wild headland. St Juliot church was restored by Thomas Hardy and �a pair of blue eyes� nearly fell down a Crackington cliff. Bodmin Moor, its highest hills quite mountainous, is only a little way inland and Blisland, on its northern edge, is one of Cornwall�s prettiest villages - makes a change from sea: so does lovely Lanhydrock (see Cornwall�s �Med�). Not far to Eden (see South Cornwall).

St Kew Highway

St Tudy: little village (good food pub, medieval church) off the beaten track. Golf, 2 miles. Sea at Port Isaac/Port Gaverne (cove beach), 4� miles, or Polzeath (splendid sand/surf beach) and Rock (sandy beach, watersports, sailing school and St Enodoc golf course), 7. Camel Trail, 3.
