The Rhône-Alpes region
The 3 Vallees ski area is the largest in the World with more than 600km of skiing. It has something for every level of skier from beginners to families to extensive off-piste for advanced skiers. The Belleville valley alone has 300km of skiing. St Martin de Belleville and St Jean de Belleville and the surrounding villages still retain all the character of traditional French village life and are steeped in history. The area is just as appealing during the summer months as in the winter with plenty to offer for everyone.
St Jean de Belleville is known locally as the doorway to the Belleville valley and offers the tranquility and beauty of a traditonal mountain village. The village church (St Jean-Baptiste Baroque Church) is one of the churches on the "Sentiers du Baroque" and is the oldest in the valley with a listed altar piece and is open to the general public. There are various walking itineraries starting from the village and maps can be obtained from the Mairies office in the village centre, walking trails are well maintained during the summer season (June - September). Nearby attractions during winter months include downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snow-shoeing, sledging (both Les Menuires and Val Thorens have dedicated sledging runs, Val Thorens boasts the longest dedicated sledging run in Europe at over 6km long), dog-sledding, Leisure and Spa facilities, Cinema's, ten pin bowling, varied bars and restaurants to suit all tastes.
During the summer months there is just as much to do and see, from walking, cycling/mountain biking, fishing (both river and lake), white water rafting, via ferrata, climbing, tree top adventures, summer skiing in Val Thorens, horse riding, golf (situated in Meribel or Courchevel), quad and motorbiking. Plus Les Menuires boasts an impressive children's activity programme, inlcuding archery, bouncy castles & trampolines, donkey rides, arts & craft sessions plus much more.
Why not try the 2 Michelin Star restaurant "La Bouitte" situated in St Marcel or for a truly spectacular setting try the "Le Chateau des Feissons" just past Moutiers (pre-bookings only) both open summer and winter serving spectacular food and wines. Or the L'Oxalys 1 Michelin Star restaurant in Val Thorens - the highest michelin starred restaurant in Europe.
Further information on all these activities/venues are supplied in detail in your welcome pack and we are more than happy to answer any questions you may have in advance of your arrival.

"Great budget accommodation for those with a car"
Well equipped & comfortable for 4. 10 minute drive from ski-lift at St Martin de Belleville. Parking 2 mins walk from apartment - slightly inconvenient. Very peaceful village.

"Lovely small chalet in typical french village"
Really enjoyed our stay in Le Petit Coquelicot. For such a small chalet it is very well equipped and very comfortable. The bedrooms are both particularly nice with nice quality touches. The lounge /kitchen area is adequate with the kitchen area although small having everything you could possibly need such as dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker etc. My brother was disappointed that the fridge did not have a freezer compartment to make ice for his apres ski drinks but he managed to make some ice by leaving icebags outside overnight!! The only internal negative is the small shower room which has very cold tiled walls and floor which tended to get very wet with condensation.
The chalet is nicely located up a small path in St Jean. Parking is a 100 yards away in the street below although when there is less snow it may be possible to get a vehicle closer to the building. St Jean itself is a lovely quiet village - very French in character and consisting of narrow winding streets and old buildings with a smattering of more modern chalet style buildings up the hill. A lovely church completes the picture - although the bells on the hour every hour may keep you awake!! The village is a short easy drive up to St Martin for connection to the wonderful 3 Vallees ski complex.
Many thanks for your lovely review. I am glad that you enjoyed your second stay at Le Petit Coquelicot. We were not aware that the shower room had such a problem with condensation, but now that you have mentioned it we will look into the best way to resolve it and address it over the coming summer. Hopefully we'll see you again soon for another great holiday in St Jean de Belleville and the 3 Valleys.
