Garden:
The half-acre garden consists of lawn, patio, secluded 10m x 5m swimming pool, dovecote, outbuildings, barn, shrubs and trees. The pool is equipped with an alarm system, which complies with the recent much tighter French law. It will detect anyone entering the pool even a baby and the alarm can be heard from anywhere in the farmhouse and beyond. It is very easy to turn on and off, is child proof, and is self-alarming after one minute of inactivity in the pool.
The nearest town, with a variety of shops including a bakery, a spar type shop, garage, chemist, doctor, restaurants, hairdresser, post office and more, is Villeneuve-la-Comtesse, which is less than a mile away. A van delivers bread to the house but times vary. There is a large Intermarche in Beauvoir-sur-Niort, 5 miles to the North, which sells nearly everything you need. We recommend you do your first shop there on the way to the house if you have room in the car.

The St Jean d'Angely area
There are a host of activities and things to do in the area including:
St Jean d'Angely - located 12 miles away is a charming medieval town with a busy market twice a week. It has a wide range of shops, cafes and dozens of restaurants.
Niort - Originally a Gallic village snuggled in a bend in the river on the banks of the River Sevre 14 miles away, the town has kept the traces of its glorious history intact. It is a commercial town with many different businesses and the Baltard style market hall, which shelters a very lively covered market.
La Rochelle - The best way of seeing La Rochelle is to stroll along the quaysides of the old harbour and through the network of pedestrian streets. It is obvious from the old timbered houses and private mansions that the source of La Rochelle's splendour has always been the sea. Shops and restaurants abound and should be combined with a visit to the nearby beaches.
The Atlantys pool complex - in St Jean d'Angely is open 7 days a week and is equipped with a gym, 54 metre flume, saunas, steam room, Jacuzzis, children's paddling pool, river and underwater jets.
The lake at St Jean d'Angely - with swimming pool, pedalos and canoes for hire, crazy golf, volleyball pitch and children's play area.
Canoeing - on the Boutonne at St Jean d'Angely, Marans, La Rochelle, Venice Verte and Rochefort sur Mer.
Horse riding - Stables are almost everywhere and cater for all levels of experience offering off the beaten track trekking.
Cycling everywhere - bring your own bikes or hire locally.
Boat trips - Boating on the Sevre, Boutonne, along the coast and on Venice Verte (West of Niort).
Go-carting and motorcycle scrambling in St Jean d'Angely.
Tennis and golf.
Futuroscope - the European park of moving image in Poitiers is about an hour’s drive and a good day out for all the family.
