Rose Cottage (cottage)

Home description

Detached cottage with a secluded south facing large garden, with a large patio and grassed lawns. The cottage is located in a small village with a shop, post office and its own tennis court. There is ample garden furniture and a built in barbecue. The bathroom/shower/utility room is ideally located on the ground floor. At the rear of the property there is an above ground swimming pool. (normally available from the end of June to August.) The 3 bedrooms consist of 1 double/1 twin and 1 set of bunk beds. Complimentary bikes (for all ages) and a bike rack are available (cannot guarantee their condition), outdoor games, boules, tennis rackets and a swing/climbing set for the under 10's.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region

The Charente Maritime's climate is the second sunniest after the Côte d’Azur. The countryside around Bernay is ablaze with sunflowers in the early summer. The village has its own tennis court, post office and shop selling fresh bread daily. Horse riding,fishing and two tree climbing centres are located nearby. The village is centrally situated to offer both a beach holiday or to spend the day in the countryside cycling, visiting a traditional French Market or brocante. The local tourist office in Surgeres or St Jean have details of all activities for all the family.

St Jean d'Angely / Bernay St Martin area

Bernay is ideally situated between the historically towns of Surgeres and St. Jean d’Angély (10 mins by car) they provide all local amenities within easy reach, weekly markets, cafes, restaurants serving excellent cuisine, indoor/outdoor swimming pools, and safe canoeing/pedalos on the river Boutonne. In less than an hour you can travel to La Rochelle (known as "Paris by the Sea")with its beaches and shopping, then continue on the link bridge to the islands of Oléron, Aix and Ré which provide attractions to tempt everyone from sunbathing,)take your bikes) watersports and boat trips to Fort Boyard. Other local places easily accessible in 45 mins are Cognac for its famous distilleries and Saintes offering summer concerts in its own Roman amphitheatre. Travelling further afield in over an hour spend the day in Futuroscope (theme park) , or Royan and its surrounding beaches including La Palmyre (with its own zoo) .

Fly with FLYBE from Manchester from as little as £6 to La Rochelle
Fly to La Rochelle (Ryanair) from Stanstead then 40 mins drive to Bernay
Fly to Bordeaux from Gatwick or other city airports with BA but allow 1 hour 40 mins drive to Bernay St Martin
Drive from Dover (Seafrance) to Calais - crossing 90 minutes then drive 7hrs; Brittany Ferries :Portsmouth/Poole to St.Malo 4hrs; Caan / Cherbourg (crossing 4 hrs) then 5hrs drive.

This modern spacious gite sleeps 6 comfortably and is well equipped especially in the kitchen with all mod cons for a relaxing holiday. The large lounge area contains many additional features ie another dining area for 8, comfortable sofas/seating for 6. Relax and enjoy DVDs and videos (for adults and children)to view at your leisure. There are inflatables for use in the pool and garden games for the children to enjoy. There is a booster seat for the dining area and a bed guard/stairgate for the smaller child.

Further details outdoors:
The garden has a built in barbecue and a large patio area at the front with grassed lawns. The rear of the property is also lawned and decked with an on the top swimming pool (available from the end of June to August). There is ample seating with either lazy chairs, tables and chairs to allow eating outside on those warm evenings. Areas can also shaded with a pergola and/or parasol. There are swings for under 10's with a small climbing rope ladder. There is also a supply of outdoor games ie badminton tennis rackets and boules.

The above ground pool is only available from the end of June to August.

Conditions

Pets are welcome in most circumstances. A refundable breakages deposit of £100 is required at time of booking.
We do not allow smoking in the cottage. Complimentary bikes and a bike rack are available to tour the local area or explore further afield along the tree lined coastal cycle paths.

Special Rates are on offer for long term lets. This can be discussed at time of booking. A "Welcome pack" can be arranged for a small charge on request.
