The Charente Maritime region is the second sunniest in France after the cote D'Azur. With the enchanting rolling hills of Cognac country to the east and a stunning coastline to the west, Your visit will be jam packed with things to do. La Rochelle and the islands are breathtaking and The Marais Poitevin is the "Norfolk Broads" of France with hundreds of waterways and eateries.
St Jean d'Angely / Bernay St Martin area
The house is in a sleepy village surrounded by sunflowers named Villeneuve La Comtesse. Walking distance from the house (4 mins either way) is a bar/restaurant, mini market, post office and boulangerie. There is even a mobile pizza van offering stonebaked pizzas which are well worth trying!
10 minutes drive will get you to the nearest major supermarket. 15 to 20 minutes south gets you to vibrant St Jean D'angeley with plenty of shops and night life. (8 mins will get you to a good but slightly smaller supermarket)
15 minutes west is Surgeres, a pleasant market town with quality restaurants and a magnificent saturday market.

The Marias Poitevin was a real gem and only 15 mins away, we will be back!
Fell in love with house, it is a true home from home feeling with all the extra touches, Thankyou so much.
Came last year in August, even better in June with the sunflowers fully out, would highly recommend June.
