Home description
A warm welcome awaits you at Les Grands Arbres. Along with the three gites attached to our property we have two lovely bedrooms available for bed and breakfast. The first room has a double bed and an en suite shower room. This room features a wooden beamed ceiling and wooden French windows. The second room is a twin room and the occupants have the sole use of a bathroom just across the corridor. Both rooms overlook our large walled garden.
Our two hundred year old house is in the heart of Cognac country and like many of the local houses it once had its own distillery. Alas, the production of cognac at Les Grands Arbres, ceased long before our time but you can still visit other local producers and taste not only cognac but also the delicious aperitif - Pineau des Charentes.

The Charente Maritime Department has one of the highest records for sunshine in France, after the Mediterranean, and at any time of the year you can experience days of beautiful sunshine, making it an ideal choice for early and late season breaks. Even during the warm summer months, at the height of the summer season, the roads are quiet, allowing you to explore all the attractions of this beautiful region - the old roman towns and churches, the local markets, the small villages beside the Charente and Boutonne rivers, the fields of vineyards. Try popping into one of the many producers of our local drink - Pineau des Charentes for a little 'degustation'.
St Jean d'Angely / Ste Meme area
St Jean d'Angely, Saintes and Cognac are all within easy reach. Saintes is a chic river town with pedestrian streets, a roman amphitheatre and a cultured air. Cognac is a charming and characterful town with an interesting produce market, jazz festival and a variety of cognac distilleries. You've tasted Remy Martin, now go for a visit and sniff it straight from the barrel. St Jean d'Angely is a picturesque market town with swimming pool complex, river and lake. Further afield are the fascinations of La Rochelle, Rochefort, Ile de Ré and some lovely seaside towns. More information on all the local tourist attractions is available in the rooms.
How to get there
This area is well served by the budgets airlines as we are less than an hour and a half's drive from La Rochelle, Poitiers and Angouleme airports and Bordeaux airport is only about 2 hours away. Cars can be easily hired at all these airports. If you are driving, we are less than 15 minutes from Junction 34 of the A10 autoroute and the Brittany ports are an easy day's drive away.

A fold -down bed can be added into the twin room at a cost of 15 euros per night or a cot into the double room at a cost of 7 euros per night.
The heated swimming pool is available June to September.
