Home description

A spacious and well equipped apartment with one double bedroom, and a sofa bed in the lounge.
The lounge/dining room has been refurnished this year with a relaxing sofa and two armchairs looking out onto the balcony. The dining table has seating for four.
French windows lead out onto the balcony, and stairs lead down to a small private garden with bbq and garden furniture. Ideal for eating al fresco. You might be serended by our local nightingale!
The spacious well fitted kitchen, has a window looking out to beautiful countryside. From here you might spot some of the local wildlife including wild boar, deer, a red squirrel and many birds including pheasant and partridge.
This is a good spot from where you can go walking or cycling along country tracks and the local forests. Alternatively, just relax in the peace and quiet or use this as a base for house hunting in the area.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region

Just an hour away towards the coast is the famous resort of La Rochelle. This has excellent sandy beaches, many good shops and lots of restaurants serving delicious food. From here is easy access to the Ile de Re. Further down the coast is Royan with more sandy beaches and nearby at Palmyre is the famous zoo, one of the best in Europe.
Historic cities of Saintes and Poitiers are less than an hours easy drive. Visit the amphitheatre in Saintes and work around the signposted routes through the historic parts of Poitier. Also near Poitier is Futuroscope, well worth a visit.
Near the city of Niort are the canals of Marais Poitevin, often known as 'green venice'. Have a punt on the canals and look at the birdlife.
About an hours drive south is the city of Cognac which lies along the Charente river. Visit the famous distilleries and sample cognac, and the unique aperitif Pineau de Charente.
A family day out should include a visit to the Valley of the monkeys. Here you can walk among the 30 or so different variety of monkeys and watch them eat, sleep and play. Picnic areas and snack bars are available. This is about 50mins away.

St Jean d'Angely / La Villedieu area

St Jean d'Angely is 15minutes away, with an Abbey, markets, numerous restaurants, and the Atlantis water sports centre.
Aulnay de Saintonge is 7 minutes away, with all amenities including a historic church, public swimming pool, market, supermarket and two pharmacies. There are also local restaurants and a bar.
A local donkey sanctuary is situated in a nearby village.
The forest of Chize is very close and the home to many deer, wild boar and a wide variety of birds.
The nearby town of Melle has a silver mine.

By Road: From Channel Ports via Rouen,Tours and Poitiers. Approximate time 7 hours.
From St Malo via Rennes & Nantes. Approximate time is 4 hours.
From Caen - 5 hours
From Cherbourg - 6 hours.
By Train: London St Panceas - Poitiers or Niort via Lile Europe or Paris on Eurostar and TGV services.
By Air: London Stansted to La Rochelle with Ryanair
