Le Vieux Monastere consists of luxury cottages accommodating up to 18 people in 9 bedrooms plus cots. They are spacious and well equipped providing a luxury home from home experience. The cottages have been finished to a very high standard whilst retaining attractive original features. These can be rented individually or in a combination. Facilities include a 12m by 6m swimming pool, heated May to September, a well equipped games room and plenty of grassed areas for playing or relaxing. WiFi available free of charge. Welcome drinks evening and group meal evening available during peak season. Superbly positioned in stunning open countryside, we are positioned between the roman town of Saintes and the historic town of St Jean d'Angely. Ideal for visiting Cognac, La Rochelle and the beautiful beaches of the Charente Maritime.

Set among sunflower fields and vineyards Le Vieux Monastère and its grounds provide privacy and seclusion within the stone walls that surround the property. This ensures a safe and secure environment for children, allowing parents the freedom to relax and enjoy our tranquil location and facilities. We also offer babysitting to enable you to enjoy that special evening out. Whilst Charente Maritime offers many attractions and places of interest to visit, Le Vieux Monastere is a perfect place in which to soak up the sun and unwind.
Our games room includes table tennis, table football, children's toys and book exchange. We also have a library of DVD’s available.
The large area of lawn lying central to the grounds is bordered by the cottages, creating a pleasant village green atmosphere. It is a perfect play area for all sorts of outdoor games including boules and croquet, volleyball and kwik cricket. There is a swing set for the younger children and we also offer bicycle hire.

The swimming pool is heated between May and October. English speaking owners are on site to lend a hand and provide local information.
Le Vieux Monastere is an ideal location for a group booking or celebration event. We can provie equipment for group entertaining and catering, and can also provide group meals on request and outside caterers if required.

Charente Maritime is a coastal departement of Poitou-Charente, enjoying a sunny maritime climate. We are within easy reach of the islands and beaches of the coast whilst being close to the roman town of Saintes and the town of Cognac, famous for its distilleries.
We are within easy reach of the channel ports with approximate journey times by car as follows: St Malo 4 hours; Caen 4.5 hours; Cherbourg 5.5 hours; Le Havre 6 hours; Calais 7 hours. La Rochelle airport, served by several low cost airlines is an hours drive.
The St Jean d'Angely area
Our nearest town is St Jean d'Angely, a medieval market town with pretty squares and narrow cobbled streets. We are also located near the Charente river which has numerous pretty riverside villages close by.
