About this location
The Poitou-Charentes region
A peaceful rural location within easy access of the West coast beaches and inland attractions.
In the heart of the Charente Maritime, surrounded by sunflowers and vines, Maison Cypres benefits from all the region offers. On record as the second sunniest region of France days can be spent inland visiting the historic and beautiful Cognac, Saintes and Angouleme. As a contrast days to the coast offer endless days of fun - the famous Ile's de Re, Oleron, Madame and Aix are a treat, with long, sandy, quiet and safe beaches. La Rochelle has much to offer with its Museums, restaurants and attractions. Along the coast you can enjoy the oysters straight from the beds, and the beautiful scenery right down to Royan and beyond.
The local village offers two brilliant bakers (bread baked on the premises and lovely patisserie!). There is a small market weekly and the essentials of cashpoint, chemist, newsagents and local general store. On Sundays oysters are sold in the village square.
Saint Jean D'Angely is an easy 8 minute drive away and is a beautiful medieval market town. It offers bars and restaurants, and twice weekly a fabulous market with local produce and an incredible array of fish and seafood. There is much to see in Saint Jean and it also has great sports facilities.
Within an easy 35 min drive of the coast and 40 minutes from the idyllic Ile de Re. Other fabulous beach days are to be found on the Ile D'Oleron, Ile D'Aix, and the coast from Royan up to La Rochelle. The beaches are all safe, unspoilt, sandy and remarkably deserted.
Other local places of note include Cognac, Saintes and Surges
There is great fishing locally, canoeing, riding and endless cycle rides through the countryside ..
