Home description
Situated on the edge of the stunning Pyrennes, this elegant maison bourgeoise can accommodate 12 people and two infants in cots. The property has been furnished and decorated to a high standard and stands in its own grounds of approximately 6 acres. There is a swimming pool (10mx5m) for guest use only which is located in a secluded area close to the house. The owners of the property live in a totally private independent apartment which adjoins the house. The property has the benefit of being close to Lavelanet, a once thriving textile/weaving town. This elegant house stands in its own grounds of six acres, which is set mainly to trees and meadows. The private pool, secluded and sheltered, make the surrounding area a sun trap. Next to the pool is a pool terrace, the roof of which is covered with beautiful wisteria and tumpet vine, with ice making machine, a sink, refrigerator and gas BBQ. Everything you might need to relax.

St. Jean D'Aigues Vives / Lavelanet area
If you want to be a bit more energetic you can, within minutes, be exploring the stunning Pyrennes, a wonderful sight from the bedroom windows. The famous Cathar stronghold of Montseguer is only a 10 minute drive away and the fabulous pre-historic cave paintings at Grotte de Niaux only 20 minutes. Within 20 minutes drive is the historic town of Foix with it's stunning Chateau and wonderful view of the rooflines of the town. The bastide town of Mirepoix, again within 15 minutes drive, on the borders of the Ariege and the Aude has an attractive main square shaded by acacia trees and flanked by half-timbered arcades above the shops and cafes. It also boasts a Gothic Cathedral. World Heritage sites such as the incredible City of Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi are both within 55 minutes drive. Also the exciting city of Toulouse is again within an hour's drive. The breathtaking Pays de Cathar Route is located at the end of the road and the Chateau de Montsegur is only a 10 minute drive. Just one of the major sights of the nearby town of Tarascon is the Grotte de Niaux. The main cave contains some of the finest examples of cave art in Europe and is one of the few caves that is still open to the public

A further cot is available to put up in another of the bedrooms. The house has the advantage of having plentiful and graceful French windows providing a lot of light throughout the house. It is, however, wonderfully cool during the summer months. There is a separate breakfast room and a dining room also a large patio table outside so finding somewhere to eat is not a problem. There is a large bathroom accompanying the master bedroom which has a bath and separate shower. The other three bathrooms have either a shower/bath or shower. Oil fired central heating. Sky TV. Games area with table football and darts, archery (in the six acres) and rifle shooting (last two upon request).
Further details outdoors: There is a wonderful organic vegetable patch and plentiful fruit trees in the grounds. We would be happy to share our produce with you.
