The St James Parish region
The property is located in St James a few minutes walk from Paynes Bay on the West coast of Barbados which is known for its sandy beaches and calm clear blue sea.
The coastal road is under 5 minutes walk away with buses to Bridgetown, Oistens and St Lawrence Gap to the South as well as buses to Holetown and Speightstown to the north.
All along the west coast is ideal for water sports.
Swimming with the turtles is popular in Paynes Bay.
The temperatures across the year vary from 24 to 32 degrees Centigrade. There is usually a much welcomed cooling breeze at all times of the day and night.
Barbados is a coral island hence the pale almost white sand and other interesting geological features. It is largely flat with a series of ridges as you travel inland. The North East region is hilly and rugged. The sea on (the Caribbean) West Coast is usually very calm and crystal clear while on (the Atlantic Coast) to the East Coast the waves are much larger.
The apartments are located about 300 to 400 meters from the beach at Paynes Bay. A further 200 meter up the hill inland you can now find Polo Ridge where part of the former Holders plantation was located and acres of sugar cane was grown.
A further 200 meters along the road inland is the building which was the former St John the Baptist School where a number of famous Barbadian and West Indian Cricketers went to school. The playing fields are nearby on which a number of them developed their cricketing talents.
Marshalls Bar, a small, popular local bar and restaurant is near the playing field and is a popular haunt of a range of cricketing enthusiasts. Here you can sample some traditional Bajan food.
Holetown is a mile away from the apartments to the north along the coast road is of historical interest as it is where the first British settlers landed in Barbados and where the famous monument can be seen as a reminder of its former British colonial past.
Holetown has a range of shops, banks, and a wide range of eating places. There is an annual festival which is held in February.
Holder's Hill area
The local beach in Paynes Bay is a short walk away from the apartments
In the cool, quiet dawn/ early morning between 5.30 and 7.00 am you may see a few small monkeys in the woodland from the windows or garden to the west of the property. Sometime they can be even seen playing on the piece of grassland adjacent. They are shy and any attempt to approach them or get closer than 30 meters, any sudden noise or movement will send them scampering away into the trees and out of sight.
It is possible to walk for miles along pale creamy white sandy beaches and have access to a wide range of water activities such as boat cruises water skiing, jet Ski hire, Snorkeling, scuba diving, glass bottom boat rides, fishing and activities as to be expected in any modern resort.
Golf and tennis facilities are within easy access.
Holetown is just over a mile away with a range of shops, eating place, bars and boutiques
An introductory fishing trip/ boat ride suitable for young children and families or persons with no previous fishing experience can be organised with a local fisherman. It last about two hours. In the case of small children all the bait and hooks can be prepared and handled by the fisherman in the interest of health and safety.
