Guestbook
I have visited Anchorage four times in total, most recently for my 30th birthday celebrations with some close friends and family. Set within the Sandy Lane Estate, it is a completely idyllic retreat. It comes with its own maid, Ernesta, who is a lovely local lady and so accommodating. She will prepare and cook breakfast and lunch as well as dinner by arrangement - she is a fabulous cook and makes the BEST sweet potato pie!! There is also Jeffrey the gardener who, as well as keeping the garden looking beautiful, looks after the private pool, making sure the beds are out ready in the morning - fabulous for all us sun-worshippers! The house is only a five minute walk from the Sandy Lane beach, where you have the use of a private beach hut, most importantly with a fridge to keep the drinks cool but also handy for storing stuff during your stay. The house itself is cool and airy and a lovely place to relax in the evenings with a barbecue and jug of rum punch, although there are some wonderful restaurants & bars nearby, some within walking distance and some a cab ride away. If staying here you must have dinner at the The Cliff - its only down the road and its amazing! The rooms in the house are clean & fresh and overall its a fantastic & very comfortable place to stay and its the sort of place you will want to return to again and again. I know I do! I would thoroughly recommend it. Miss F from Sussex -January 2007
"We have visited Anchorage 3 times and have always had a wonderful stay. The Sandy Lane beach is undoubtedly the best on the island with superb swimming and the use of the Anchorage cabana is a definite bonus with its fridge, sunbeds, etc. When not lazing on the beach, an afternoon by the Anchorage pool is an oasis of peace and calm set in beautiful gardens. The property is kept in immaculate order by Ernesta, the housekeeper, and the gardener, Jeffery. Ernesta is also a terrific cook and seems able to produce any kind of dish you might require. Her accounts of island life are a great source of entertainment! Anchorage is very conveniently situated for the local shops and there are some superb restaurants nearby. Our favourite is definitely The Cliff, but the Fish Pot is also worth a visit, or several! It's a good idea to rent a car to see the rest of the island, but the beach is only a 5-minute or so level walk. We would highly recommend Anchorage. The house is light and airy and very spacious and private. You'll be given a true Bajan welcome and we're sure you'll want to return." Mr & Mrs V den B from Devon UK - February 2007
We have been returning to Anchorage almost every year for the past 8 years and on our last visit in 2006 our youngest daughter got married in the splendid grounds of Anchorage. The fact we have returned so frequently probably tells its own story but we have always found the house exceptionally clean, well maintained as well as being extremely private. We tend to take family holidays so we fully utilise the 3 bedrooms and the cooking skills of Ernesta the house keeper either to prepare us breakfast and lunch or alternatively lunch and dinner (she happily does what ever you require her to do regarding her hours). Jeffrey the Gardener ensures the grounds are kept immaculately and this includes cleaning the pool for you on a daily basis, both our grandchildren (eldest daughter) have learnt to swim in this pool. As there are so many nice restaurants we probably went out to dinner most evenings but its always nice to have the occasional meal on the patio at Anchorage. If you want to spend a day on the beach then the facilities at the Property owners beach club were ideal for our needs with shaded areas and toilets etc. There is also of course the Cabana with fridge, sunbeds and even some snorkeling equipment. Anchorage suited our needs perfectly and I would not hesitate to recommend it to our friends (some have been already). Although it is only a short walk to the beach I would recommend you get a car as we regularly find ourselves visiting the local supermarket to top up on food or drink plus it is extremely convenient for visiting restaurants or sight seeing trips. We have probably tried most of the restaurant on the West Coast and some on the South Coast, but we did particularly like the Lone star and the Calabaza for dinner with Cocomos our favourite at lunch time. I hope you enjoy your visit to Anchorage as much we do. Mr & Mrs B from Berkshire UK - April 2007
It is without doubt I highly recommend Anchorage on the exclusive Sandy Lane Estate. I have been the fortunate visitor for the last 11 years on an annual basis and never tire of paradise. The house, fabulous housekeeper/cook and gardener as well as the private access to the cabana on the Sandy Lane beach all make the experience - more than delightful. It is a "must see" enviironment that encourages return visits year after year. Trust me., I am proof! Miss S from London - October 2007
This is our fourth visit to Anchorage and we hope to continue our annual holiday in this idyllic villa. With its amazing inside/outside attraction it creates a wonderful get-away-from-it-all experience. An added bonus is that all things domestic are taken over by the wonderful Ernesta, whose culinary skills are legendary. Apart from the glorious beach and cabana facility, it is great fun to watch and deal with beach vendors, some of whom are well known to regular guests at Anchorage and Sandy Lane in general. Barbados is a beautiful island, with friendly, colourful people. Sunshine everyday and the pleasure of sitting gazing out on the beautiful Caribbean whilst indulging in a sundowner. Later, particularly in Holetown, a wonderful steel band entertains visitors and locals alike. There is so much one can enjoy - Polo, Racing, Theatre, Nature Reserves, Parks, and a very wide range of restaurants. For the more adventurous, sporting pursuits abound. It would be a shame for anyone visiting Barbados to miss out on a visit to the East Coast. Absolutely stunning scenery - wild shiny sea, rugged and oh, so green coastline. Whilst three of our visits have been with adults, one was spent in company of three generations. Two of these were young children, who had an abdolutely fabulous time on the beaches, in the nature reserves and last, but not least, in the lovely swimming pool at Anchorage. Mr & Mrs S from Sussex UK - March 2008
"We just got home this morning, and everything was absolultely perfect thank you, we all had a wonderful time and a thoroughly enjoyable week with the kids. Ernesta was great as ever. Many thanks again, and I look forward to future visits to Anchorage." Mr & Mrs H. from UK - April 2008
"Anchorage was everything we had hoped for and more. It was like a dream. From the turn onto Bennet's Road from the main highway I just knew we were entering paradise with all the exotic trees and shrubs on either side of the road. We arrived at Anchorage and beautiful Ernesta welcomed us to Anchorage, showed us around, then gave us cold facecloths and a wonderful rum punch. We were all overwhelmed by so much beauty around us, the house looked exquisite. The colourful paintings were so beautiful. The furniture was gorgeous. We just loved the huge walk in shower in the master bathroom. Lots of closet space. Lots of lovely seating areas both in and out of the house. The garden was spectacular, and the sound of the water in the swimming pool was just so soothing. The bird and animal life sounds added to the exotic beauty of everything. Ernesta cooked us amazing meals, I asked her to make that chicken curry you suggested for the second night we arrived and it was delicious. She also cooked the flying fish, and dolphin for us. Everything was very tasty and well presented. Ernesta was so kind, she was always smiling and made our stay very comfortable. She was a gem. The girls thought the property was absolutely fabulous. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to stay in your gorgeous home, we were very happy there, in fact we loved it so much - it was difficult to even go out somewhere because we had everything we needed right there. Mr & Mrs B and Family from Canada - May 2008
