Home description

Idyllically set in a peaceful rural location off a quiet country lane with delightful views over open countryside, JERICHO consists of a thatched farmhouse and two cottages, one of which is BIRCH COTTAGE, set in its own grounds, with private access and parking and ¼ acre of gardens and orchard.

Despite the secluded setting, you are in fact less than a quarter of a mile from the Hayle to Helston road, five minutes walk to the local pub, just one mile from the A30 trunk road and the nearest town, Hayle, and ideally situated for all the north and south coast resorts, as well as the main towns, beaches, facilities and attractions in West Cornwall, all of which are within about 30 minutes drive of the cottage, most a lot less.

The West Country / Cornwall region

The West Cornwall area is a premier holiday destination and offers something for everyone. Take your time to relax and bask in the sunshine, enjoying many of the golden beaches that adorn the West Cornwall coastline or take a relaxing walk through the lush moorland or a more energetic hike through the cliff tops which will give you access to amazing scenery and you may be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of dolphins playing in the Ocean.

Picturesque villages dot this area and there is always something happening in the summer months that range from local festivals to outdoor activities. There is an abundance of culture, heritage and spirit in this area. Sample the wonderful Cornish cuisine in one of the many traditional pubs or watch the sun set whilst enjoying cream tea and cakes in one of the many cafes. This area is also a must for shoppers with its mix of big name retail outlets and smaller eclectic shops.

Whether you are looking for an action packed holiday or somewhere to get away from it all, West Cornwall is an ideal destination for any type of holidaymaker.

St Ives / Hayle area

St Ives holds a very special place in the heart of anyone who has ever visited this small Cornish fishing village. Wide beaches of golden sand washed by the a turquoise sea gives this western tip of the United Kingdom a uniquely Mediterranean feel.

Recently voted 'The Best Seaside Resort in the UK' by the US British Heritage Magazine, and a member of the exclusive most 'Beautiful Bays in the World Club', St Ives is a destination that will appeal to all ages and tastes.

For those who enjoy a beach-based holiday, the town's four main beaches have won numerous awards for cleanliness, professional lifeguard cover, superb café-restaurants and general facilities while Porthmeor beach, in particular, is one of Europe's major surfing venues.

For those who prefer to explore, a stroll around the streets and quaint cobbled alleyways of the old town will reveal fisherman's cottages decked with flower baskets and window boxes brimming with fuschias and geraniums - St Ives has won its category in the 'Britain in Bloom' competition for three consecutive years. Art galleries and studios exhibit paintings and sculptures by local artists who choose St Ives, with its unique and intense daylight, as a very special place to work. For the modern art lover there is, of course, the Tate Gallery, the Barbara Hepworth Studio and Museum and the Bernard Leach Pottery as well as the internationally-known September Festival of arts and music.

The nearby town of Hayle boasts glorious golden beaches stretching 3 miles to Godrevy Lighthouse, good for surfing or for family relaxation. There are excellent facilities for both the novice and expert surfer.

Paradise Park, in Hayle itself, is full of exotic birds and other wild life, including otters, penguins, pets' corner and farmyard. Keen bird watchers will find the Hayle estuary a haven for many types of birds, and for golfers, the West Cornwall Golf Club, is only 5km away and offers spectacular coastal views.

Local amenities in Hayle include many pubs, cafe bars and restaurants offering a variety of cuisine, and a retail park, with some top name stores such as M&S and Next.
