The West Country region

Penzance

The history of Penzance has been recorded since 1014. In its centre stands a statue in memory of one of its finest inventors, Humphry Davy. Cornish mining gained a huge advantage with his inventions. The cosmopolitan town boasts many art Deco features such as the Jubilee open air pool and Yacht Inn on the promenade. With its many individual shops, galleries, pubs and two harbours it is worthy of a visit.

Causewayhead hosts some of the most interesting shops.

Hayle

Three miles of golden sands is a feature second to none in the UK. Hayle boasts this, together with some of the best surf in the UK.

The town was once a busy engineering centre but is now more oriented to tourism. The old harbour and estuary have an abundance of wildlife and draw many nature lovers all year round.

St Just

Once the centre of mining in West Cornwall the town is now predominantly a farming and tourism community. Nearby are some of the best coastal walks in Cornwall and a brief drive takes you to Cape Cornwall, which must be one of the most exposed fishing boat slipways around. A well frequented golf course lies just above.

St Ives

St Ives

World renowned for its famous artists and fabulous beaches St Ives should be number one on your list in West Cornwall. Originally a fishing town, the beautiful resort now attracts visitors from all over the world.

The town has a plethora of unique shops and galleries. Award winning restaurants with sea views are plentiful. You can enjoy a drink at the famous Sloop Inn with the water nearly at your feet on a high spring tide

A highly rated golf course, at Lelant, is only 4 miles away overlooking the Hayle estuary.
