The West Country region

St Ives in Cornwall is simply 'the best place on earth', and that's why we live here!

We came across St Ives completely by accident some 15 years ago, immediately fell in love with its charm and moved here lock, stock and barrel in 2002, and have never looked back!

The once busy fishing port, is now a superb all year round seaside resort, and over the past few years has transformed itself into a top seaside holiday destination. In 2012, St Ives won the coveted accolade of 'Best UK seaside town' by the British Travel Awards for the third time!

St Ives is situated on the stunning North Coast of West Cornwall and boasts an abundance of stunning golden sandy beaches which are surrounded by the beautiful azure waters of the Atlantic Ocean, where dolphins and seals are often spotted cruising the local nearby sheltered bays that are typical of this part of Cornwall.

The sheltered beach of Porthgwidden is ideal for families with young children and is perfect for swimming in the gentle waves. Nearby, and overlooked by The Tate Gallery, is Porthmeor beach which is renowned to be one of the best surfing beaches in the whole of West Cornwall. The harbour beach encircles the pretty seafront of St Ives and is bustling with fantastic independent shops, ice cream parlours and cafés serving delicious cakes plus several award-winning seafood restaurants. Our personal favourite beach is Porthminster, it has the finest golden sand to rival any other top beach worldwide. There are stunning views out to Godrevy lighthouse and its best asset, The Porthminster Beach Café, sits on the beach with amazing seas views where you can enjoy some of the best seafood in the country!

St Ives, with its stunning natural beauty, great location and fantastic light, has also become an artist's paradise over the last century and has an 'art scene' to rival any place in the world; Barbara Hepworth, John Miller, Alfred Wallis, Bernard Leach and Terry Frost have all made it their home in the past. We are fortunate enough to have the world famous Tate Gallery too, and dozens of artist studios and galleries throughout the town for you to feast your eyes on while on holiday here.

St Ives also hosts its annual September festival, featuring a range of arts, music and literature, which has been running for well over 30 years. The festival attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world. More recently still, has been the growth of the New Year's Eve celebrations in the town, which sees thousands of revellers in fancy dress thronging their way through the pretty cobbled streets, welcoming in the New Year, an occasion that should not be missed!

To round off a memorable holiday, ensure that you take a trip on the local railway to St Erth and back. The train leaves St Ives from its station just above Porthminster beach, and climbs up the cliff side, trundling along the coastline high up above Porth Kidney sands, which affords the most stunning views out to sea and beyond, a view that on a fine summers day will even eclipse that of anywhere in the Mediterranean!

With its amazing beaches, St Ives cottages, pretty cobbled streets, stunning scenery, shops, cafés and fabulous restaurants , it thoroughly deserves its reputation as the best seaside town to visit in Britain, so why not make your next holiday to Cornwall a Cherished one…. and visit beautiful St Ives!
