The West Country region

St Ives is a bustling seaside resort with a warm climate (well for Britain anyway.) Originally a fishing port, it quickly became popular with artists due to the quality of the light. Both these activities remain a big influence on St Ives with a hive of galleries, including a branch of the Tate, a number of restaurants specialising in fish and during the summer there are organised fishing trips.

There are four beaches in St Ives, all with their own original feel. Porthmeor, the closest to the property, is overlooked by the Tate and due to the wonderful waves, is popular with surfers. Porthgwidden is smaller and quite sheltered and is poular with families. Harbour beach is where the boat trips leave from and is close to the town centre. The Sloop in is close to the water's edge and is a popular place to sit and watch the world go by. Porthminster Beach is close to the station and has a 1920s feel to it.

The town has an eclectic mix of shops, pubs and restaurants, mostly independent, catering for a wide variety of tastes.

The property is in Ayr, close to the town centre and attractions. You do need to be aware it is the top of quite a steep hill so may not be suitable for those with restricted mobility. It's very good exercise though ;) The nearest convenience store is about 100 yards away.

St Ives is our favourite part of the world and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

St Ives

St Ives in at the tip of Cornwall and nearby attractions include the Minack theatre, Lands End and resorts such as Padstow, Newquay and Mousehole are all accessible. You can also take a daytrip to the Isles of Scilly by boat (from Penzance) or by plane.
