The Cornwall region

St Ives is a lovely fishing village which both retains its traditional character yet has many many restaurants, galleries, craft shops and kiosks selling Cornish ice cream,as well as pasties !

Not only great in Summer, St Ives has loads to offer all year round, a winter morning walk in the wind along the front watching the 'big seas' and dodging the odd wave that comes over the harbour wall followed by a drink in a cafe or pub is great fun !

The St Ives school of art was home to Barbara Hepworth,Bernard Leach and now has the famous Tate St Ives.

Nearby attractions include country houses with splendid gardens,The Minack open air theatre,Flambards theme park,Lands end and some great coastal path walks.

St Ives

Downalong is a warren of windy cobbled streets in the (in my opinion) best bit of St Ives. The cottages were mainly fisherman's houses and retain much character. Love lane, Rose Lane, Fish Street ,Teetotal street and even Virgin Street are all nearby street names.

Downalong is mid way between the 3 main beaches and close to the shops, pubs and restaurants.

No arduous walk up the hill after your day in the town or on the beach back to your accommodation if you stay in Downalong !

Many thanks for your review and choosing to stay at Flip-Flops. I apologise that the cleaning wasn't up to our usual standards, we had an issue with the cleaning prior to your stay which has now been resolved.

"Fantastic stay over new year!"

We stayed over new year at Flip Flops and had a fabulous time! The cottage is very quaint and so well equipped! Everything has been thought of!!
Really like the main bedroom, very spacious! The bunk bed room was small but ok for my 8 and 10 yr old.
Our 13 yr old daughter had the sofa bed and said it was really comfy.
Location wise you couldn't get any better.. Literally 30 seconds to shops, restaurants and harbour.
I would really recommend St Ives anytime of the year, but new year was fabulous!
Thanks Derek for being so helpful!

"Gorgeous cottage in fantastic location"

We loved this cottage - right in the centre of everything and so well equipped. Everything we could possibly need was in there. It was lovely to have the beds made up and the heating was so easy and efficient. The bedroom was spacious and very comfortable. We found a parking space just outside which was a bonus. We took our dog on so many lovely walks - especially our favourite to the Badgers Inn at Lelant who do great lunches! We ate out at the lovely Firehouse Grill and Peppers as well as Weatherspoons. All in all, a brilliant week in a lovely dog friendly, welcoming cottage!

"Fabulous long weekend"

We have just returned from a fantastic weekend break at "flip flops". Derek the owner made communicating and arranging the rental super easy, and made great efforts when we needed to change details.Very accommodating.
The house is literally seconds from fore street and 1-2 minutes from the local beaches. It also benefits from some outdoor space, so if you are returning from body boarding/surfing, you can get sorted before going into the cottage. There was a very nice power shower downstairs as well as a bathroom upstairs.
The cottage provided everything for our needs in an ideal location. Being a dog friendly cottage was great and we popped in and out of the cottage all day long, walking with our two dogs. There was plenty rooms for their bed downstairs.
The cottage also features a tv in every room! So on a wet afternoon we watched some catch up TV on the living room Smart TV which was really nice.
Overall this was a super cottage, with a spacious bedroom upstairs. We really enjoyed our break and will be returning next year.

"loved Love Lane Cottage"

Really enjoyed our week and found the cottage lovely. We've stayed in St Ives before several times but this is the best place we've stayed at . Really convenient for everything and lovely and cosy. Kids really appreciated the good broadband and netflix and we appreciated the freedom of being able to pop down the road in the evenings. fabulous weather made it all superb.

"Superbly presented, charming cottage in heart of old St Ives"

Although this cottage is not large our family of 5 adults were very comfortable during our stay. The cottage was superbly presented - exactly as it looks in the pictures - and it's situation, just up Bunkers Hill from Fore Street and in the heart of "downalong", was ideal for our requirements. Only the weather let us down - but it was February, so the DVD's and board games in the cupboards were certainly a benefit. Parking in Porthmeor square was only possible on one night, but briefly unloading and loading was not an issue. We preferred the Island car park rather than Barnoon though, avoiding the walk up the hill. Booking was easy and straightforward and communication with the owner, Derek, was prompt and excellent by both phone and email. Would we go back there again?? Definitley - at the earliest opportunity!!!
