The West Country region

St Ives is a lovely fishing village which both retains its traditional character yet has many many restaurants, galleries, craft shops and kiosks selling Cornish ice cream,as well as pasties !

Not only great in Summer, St Ives has loads to offer all year round, a winter morning walk in the wind along the front watching the 'big seas' and dodging the odd wave that comes over the harbour wall followed by a drink in a cafe or pub is great fun !

The St Ives school of art was home to Barbara Hepworth,Bernard Leach and now has the famous Tate St Ives.

Nearby attractions include country houses with splendid gardens,The Minack open air theatre,Flambards theme park,Lands end and some great coastal path walks.

St Ives

Downalong is a warren of windy cobbled streets in the (in my opinion) best bit of St Ives. The cottages were mainly fisherman's houses and retain much character. Love lane, Rose Lane, Fish Street ,Teetotal street and even Virgin Street are all nearby street names.

Downalong is mid way between the 3 main beaches and close to the shops, pubs and restaurants.

No arduous walk up the hill after your day in the town or on the beach back to your accommodation if you stay in Downalong !

"Superbly presented, charming cottage in heart of old St Ives"

Although this cottage is not large our family of 5 adults were very comfortable during our stay. The cottage was superbly presented - exactly as it looks in the pictures - and it's situation, just up Bunkers Hill from Fore Street and in the heart of "downalong", was ideal for our requirements. Only the weather let us down - but it was February, so the DVD's and board games in the cupboards were certainly a benefit. Parking in Porthmeor square was only possible on one night, but briefly unloading and loading was not an issue. We preferred the Island car park rather than Barnoon though, avoiding the walk up the hill. Booking was easy and straightforward and communication with the owner, Derek, was prompt and excellent by both phone and email. Would we go back there again?? Definitley - at the earliest opportunity!!!

"Great place for staying in the heart of Stives"

We found Love Lane Cottage after searching for a central location in St Ives and it seemed just what our family group wanted. Booking it was easy and an early booking discount was appreciated. On arrival at the cottage we found it to be just as described and just what we expected; cosy, well equipped and well located for the local attractions of harbour, beaches and hostelries. Our teenage grandkids loved it and we found it so convenient for everything except parking, which regular visitors to St Ives will know is always at a premium. I parked at St Ives Rugby Club and used the No 6 bus service from the Tate to get there; £1 single to get up the hill is worth it!!
The cottage had been cleaned before our arrival and after unpacking we were ready for a relaxed afternoon in town. We found plenty of good food outlets for snacks and meals and of course there are several pubs, ranging from the Castle Inn and the Sloop (old world charm) to the Lifeboat (modern on the waterfront) all with reasonably priced meals.
Everyone commented on how comfortable the beds were, especailly the teenagers. The adjacent cottage has a room over the kitchen and sometimes the noise was intrusive, then again they could probaly hear us at times.
Some minor points to note. Kitchen food storage is tight and the refuse bin outside is on the small side. Bins are emptied on Friday morning.
We would advise people to take beach & bath towels with them, drying wet towels on the line can be take some time.
Our week went by quickly with a day trip to Mousehole and other days spent on the beach or walking locally. I would advise people with young children or older relatives not to try the walk to Zennor, it's for mountain goats only imo.
So all in all a great experience from booking to leaving, the grandkids wanted to stay on! Thanks to Liz and Derrick for making ti all so easy.

"Quality and convenience"

1st class experience all round. So convenient for beaches, harbour and all restaurants.A lovely cottage with a small secluded courtyard, and all the amenities to hand that you could possibly need for a perfect beach, surf, chillout holiday.
We were even lucky enough to have a key handover from the owners , Derrick and LIz , who had stayed the week before us , and ensured a guided tour of the property .Lucky enough fo find space on Porthmeor Square - where the car didn't move for a week.

"We loved Love Lane!"

This was our first trip to St Ives, a long journey with two very small children, but awaiting us at 1 Love Lane was a little sanctuary nestled right by the harbour! The cottage is small but very perfectly formed and has everything in it you could ever need. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped, the bed linen pristine and comfortable and the large plasma TVs in the lounge and master bedroom an unexpected bonus! What really sets this cottage apart is its position. The beautiful beaches, harbour and restaurants are all a stones throw away. We loved being able to nip to the beach, then back home, then out for lunch, then back home - a total godsend with young children! Last but not least, the owner bent over backwards to help up when we left a precious sleep toy behind. This place is a gem.
