From the dining area which seats 4/5, there are views of the lake and mountain with a door leading to the balcony with table and chairs. An archway from the dining area leads to a modern fitted kitchen including an upright fridge/freezer , miele hob and cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, filter coffee maker.
The apartment is within a 5 minute drive, 10 minute walk to the local Spa Supermarket which stocks a wide range of products including British branded goods.There is also a deli counter and cafe based in store.
The accommodation offers an ideal base to explore the Austrian lake district and is 15 mins walk from St Gilgen village, lake and the Gondola to Zwolferhorn mountain range.St Gilgen is an all year round resort with many activites both in summer and winter. The area is within a 35 minute drive by car to explore the cultural and historic sites of Salzburg and the spa resort of Bad Ischl housing the Kaiservilla and park and visited by the great composers of Lehar, Strauss and Brahams.

The balcony can be used all year round as it is double glazed with table and chairs offering superb views of the lake and mountains. There are two parking areas near the apartment block giving a lower and higher access via steps.

The Austrian lake district offers a wide variety of activities all year round with excellent communication links by bus and train to Salzburg offering the best of nature with the bustle and history of the city. Lake Wolfgang is the largest of the lakes in the area which include Lake Mondsee and Lake Attersee and is the warmest of the lakes in the summer, which offers good bathing . The area is famous for salt production and visits to the mines are available all year round, The Sound of Music film was produced in the area and the panoramic views of St Gilgen on the lake feature in the opening panoramic shots. There are various tours to the Sound of Music locations which may be booked at the local tourist office.
The local bus service has regular services to the neigbouring villages of Strobl ,Bad Ischl and St Wolfgang famous for its cog railway to the Schafberg mountain range and the White Horse Inn opera was based on the In Weissen Rossl situated on the lakeside. In Winter there is a scheduled ski bus which also goes to Dachstein West as well as Postalm and the Zwolferhorn gondola.
The city of Salzburg is under 1 hour away with many musuems, shops and Mozart's House in the historical centre. Salzburg has very good transport connections to other cities of Graz, Innsbruck and Vienna. Bad Iscl is approx 35 mins drive away, famous for its Imperial Villa and the composer Lehar's House, plus an 18 hole golf course par 72 , whilst Dachstein West is approx 1 hour away for more advanced skiing and visits to the Ice Caves..
The St Gilgen / Laim area
The accommodation offers an ideal base to explore the Austrian lake district and is 15 mins walk from St Gilgen village, lake and the Gondola to Zwolferhorn mountain range.St Gilgen is an all year round resort with many activites on the lake in Spring/Summer including swimming,sailing, rowing, pedalos, steamer/boat trips across the lake to neigbouring villages of Strobl and St Wolfgang,There is a childrens play area with a water splash into the lake,minigolf, bike and walking trails plus hiking and mountain bike trails on the Zwolferhorn and paragliding not far from the mountain station.
In Winter there is excellent skiing on the mountain with intermediate and very fast runs plus the family resort of the Postalm 20 mins away offers childrens runs, a ski school and snow boarding . Around the lake there are cross country and snow shoe trails offering a variety of distances.The apartment is also near a floodlit tobaggan run and there is an ice skating rink in St Gilgen.
St Gilgen has a variety of restaurants,bars and cafes offering traditional Austrian food plus fish, Italian and Chinese dishes. An Irish cafe sells Guiness and Irish coffe with a selection of gateaux and light snacks. There are gift shops selling a variety of hand made products including hand made chocolate and toys..
The village also has three banks, hairdressers, doctors and a pharmacy .The Town Hall and Church being the focal points in the village with several musuems including Mozart's sisters and mother's residence situated on the lakeside and a lace weavers house now a museum.
Local festivals in the autumn (end of Sept/beginning of Oct ) include the livestock being decorated and paraded through the villages as they are brought off the mountains to the lower pastures, with local brass bands and folklore evenings.
St Wolfgang holds the Scalaria Air challenge beginning of July over a weekend period again with musical festivities. The Wolfgansee Advent festival from the middle of Novemenber to the end of December sees all the villages lit by many illiminations and lights including the lake plus many market stands offering a wide variety of Christmas goods with mulled wine and local hearty food..
