The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region
The Haute Savoie department of the Rhone Alps region boasts some of the most stunning mountain scenery to be seen anywhere in Europe, having the added advantage of being very close to both Switzerland and Italy with easy access to both. The altitude and geology of the area provide visitors with a range of terrains from which to choose their particular interests, whether it be summer or winter activities. The area is steeped in history and local traditions adding to a truly memorable experience in all respects. The climate is such that there are defined seasons which provide excellent conditions throughout the year.
St Gervais Les Bains area
St-Gervais is a traditional market town, not a purpose made ski resort. As such it has a great deal of charm and character and never ceases to impress those visiting for the first time or those returning yet again. Traditionally it was a spa town and resort for the rich and famous as the Mont Blanc railway passes through the village with it's own quaint station. The town is steeped in local history and well worth reading into. Today it is a family resort with it's own distinctive character resting between cosmopolitan Megeve and lively Chamonix. St-Gervais now adds Mont Blanc to it's name as the summit lies within the commune, but still remains a spa town with the Parc Thermal just down the road. It is a great place to relax or enjoy the great outdoors to the limit. There is something for everyone here. if you are looking to tour or explore further afield you could not ask for a better base.
