An authentic 3 bedroom chalet over 3 levels which makes this property unique as it is as affordable as an apartment but you get your own stand-alone traditional chalet - ideal for a small group of friends, a romantic getaway for any couple or the perfect retreat for a family.

It is an original 'Mazot' (traditional mountain chalet) which has been tastefully renovated to retain the original alpine charm with timber clad walls, exposed beams and log burner yet has all the modern day luxuries with Plasma tv, Sky Freeview, dvd player and stereo.

It is delightfully cosy but comfortably sleeps 6 people as there are two double bedrooms and a bunk room which has the en-suite toilet and sink. As it's an authentic lodge the beams in some of the rooms are low!

There are also two large decking areas complete with outdoor furniture and BBQ which overlooks the pretty town of St Gervais and the Mont Blanc mountain range.

It is perfectly situated as it is under a 5 minute walk from the cable car and a 5-10 minute walk into town.

The chalet really is "home from home" and you are more likely to want to stay in and enjoy the comforts of sitting by the fire at the expense of a day skiing...

The Rhone/French Alps region

The Rhone area offers everything the holidaymaker could want; from a flurry of activities such as fishing, canoeing and watersports on the mighty Rhone itself, to the busy city of Lyon, France's gastronomic capital. To the east the Alps offer some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Europe and some of the world's most prestigious ski resorts, including Chamonix and Meribel, are among the 70 ski stations in the region.

St Gervais Les Bains

St Gervais is a charming 19th century spa town situated next to Megeve and 20 mins from Chamonix. It is small enough to feel in the heart of the mountains but large enough to have some good restaurants, bars, quality shops, olympic sized ice rink, national ice hockey games, outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and large spa complex for both medical and health and beauty treatments.

The chalet is a 4 minute walk to the main cable car where you have access to the St Gervais ski domain and a 5-10 minute walk into the town centre over the brand new bridge (November 2012). It is a vast ski area (including a snow park with half pipe which was used in the 2002 olympics) covering 500km of pistes, 125 ski lifts from an altitude of 1000 to 2350m. The ski pass covers: St Gervais, St Nicolas de Veroce, Megeve, Combloux (which are all linked), Les Contamines and Les Houches. Les Contamines is vast ski area only 10 minute drive from St Gervais which was featured in the Storm Riders guide for Snowboarders as it is known for the off piste skiing/boarding and open slopes. Les Houches is part of the Chamonix Valley which is accessible via the tramway (TMB) which departs from St Gervais.

Winter Activities include: Ski, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, Ice Skating, ice dancing and ice hockey, paragliding, mountain railway TMB (St Gervais to Col de Voza) tobogganing, snow shoe walking (many designated hiking routes), snow park, ski entertainment area for young children.

Summer Activities include: Tennis, walking, ice skating, ice dancing and ice hockey, hang-gliding, paragliding, mountain railway (St Gervais to Col de Voza), fishing, horse riding, golf, mini golf, cycling, mountain biking on marked trails, canoeing, white water rafting, canyoning, kayaking, rock climbing, hot iar ballooning, water sports lakes with beach (Passy 10 min drive / Let Contamines 10 min drive), summer tobogganing at Megeve and Chamonix, Summer skiing on Mont Blanc.

There are Golf championship courses at Megeve (10 mins from the mazot) and Chamonix (20 mins). Mini golf is available at St Gervais.

"Lovely little chalet."

This was the second time I've stayed at Le Mazot, and I highly recommend it. The chalet is charming, cozy and incredibly well-equipped for its size. Better still - you can just about see the nearest ski lift from the window, and it's a very short (if a little steep) walk down the hill in the morning to access the slopes. Top tip: if you don't have a car, travelling by train into St Gervais from Geneva airport is relatively straightforward. The only difficulty is that the St Gervais Le Fayet train station isn't actually in St Gervais and so, unless you want to face a rather harrowing uphill walk to the St Gervais village proper, it's best to book a taxi to pick you up from the station in advance.

"A few lines to recount our holiday this summer at the Mazot."

We were expecting a small quaint typical chalet of the region from the pictures on the website but had not anticipated such charm. This can't be captured on the photos. We were four adults and two children and it was the perfect retreat.

The facilities in the chalet are excellent; is very well equipped and has a very homely feel. The outside terrace is huge where we barbecued on the open fire every day. And the views are to die for.

The location is superb and we felt very lucky to be so close to such a picturesque town. It would be perfect for a winter vacation as the ski station is within view and merely a stone's throw away. We will certainly think about renting in the winter months.

We would certainly recommend the chalet for a summer break ... and I should imagine a winter break would be even more special.

"Nice location, shame about some problems."

As the owner of the chalet I would like to respond to some of the comments made in the review on 22 June 2011.

I have never in 6 years had any negative comments from tenants who rent my chalet so feel this review is not a true reflection of what the chalet offers.

The large dog referred to belongs to the apartment next door which is not in view of or close to the chalet to cause any problems. He is also tied up at all times in the Summer and indoors in the Winter. I would also like to add that the chalet is stand alone and is completely self contained with a lockable gate and fencing.

The wifi referred to is bought from the local café for a period of time which is excellent value for money. The guests commenting arrived off season and the café appears to have closed. This is mentioned in the advert. I can advise on this.

The plumbing has been done professionally. Further improvements have been made and the whole middle level has been newly replaced. (The people who have made this review actually stayed in October 2010 but have only recently made this review.)

Regarding the cleaning I was not alerted by those guests that there was a problem at the time. A few days into their stay they called and I immediately got my Caretakers to go round (who are excellent and respond immediately if a problem arises) and it does appear there was a mix up with the changeover dates. Under no circumstances is the property ever left unclean or bedding not changed, this was clearly a one off mistake and mistakes sadly happen. I agree it is totally unacceptable the property was not up to standard and for this reason the utmost care will be taken to ensure it never happens again.

As the owner of the property I take great pride and care in ensuring my guests enjoy their stay and it is up to the standard I expect of a property being rented out. The property is very dear to my heart and as often as I can, I spend time at the chalet adding items and making it as homely and welcoming as possible for guests.

The chalet is a cosy chalet as described and as shown in the pictures. It is unique as it is a traditional mazot so ceiling heights are lower but that is part of the charm. Sadly the guests who stayed didn't appreciate this. The chalet is priced accordingly and is larger than an average ski apartment, which often claim to sleep 6 but never do. My chalet sleeps 6 in 3 decent sized bedrooms and each has privacy and plenty of cupboard space.
