BookThe Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region
The Rhone Alps have long been one of the main centres for outdoor sports in Europe. With the backdrop of Mont Blance this area of the Haute Savoie is firmly establish as one of the prime Alpine skiing areas.
St Gervais is located between Chamonix (location of the first ever Winter Olympics) and Megeve (one of the most stylish resorts in the Alps). Further afield and within easy access on the motorway network is Geneva, Annecy and Lyon.
The St Gervais Les Bains area
St Gervais is superbly situated 50 minutes drive from Geneva airport and just a few miles from Megève and Chamonix. A turn-of-the-century spa town, it offers all the beauty of a small Savoyard market town with its traditional buildings, rich heritage, baroque church and pedestrian areas.
Generally considered to be the greatest and most spectacular ski area in the world, the Mont Blanc region of St Gervais/Megève together with the Chamonix valley is also the most varied and scenic, with Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest mountain as a constant back-drop. The majestic mountain with its glaciers and forested slopes provides extensive sporting and sightseeing opportunities both winter and summer.
The “Evasion Mont Blanc” ski area offers 500 km of slopes and 125 ski lifts from an altitude of 1000 to 2350m over Saint-Gervais and Megève and via the Mont Blanc Tramway to Les Houches in the Chamonix valley. For those wanting a real challenge, the ski pass “Mont Blanc” gives additional access to the whole of the Chamonix valley plus Courmayeur in Italy. You could take on the world famous ' Vallée Blanche' – said to be the longest ski run in the world at 23km, or the World cup 'Kandahar' downhill run at Les Houches.
For non skiers there are hundreds of marked paths on the mountain for walking or snowshoeing, a skating rink, ice-hockey, sleigh rides and the picturesque towns of St Gervais, Megève & Chamonix to explore (and shop till you drop!).
The Aiguille du Midi 3742 m cable car and the Les Houches track railway ride provide a high altitude thrill without the exertion. Taking the opportunity to see more countries as part of your trip, a scenic train ride through the Chamonix valley leads to Switzerland, or the famous Mont Blanc tunnel takes you on a day trip to Italy.
St Gervais (or to give it its full name, St Gervais Les Bains) is also a turn-of-the-century spa town, and the thermal baths, pampering beauty treatments and health-giving therapies make a welcome respite from the outdoor activities at any time of year.
If the wide open slopes of St.Gervais, Megève and St.Nicolas de Veroce (all ski-able from St.Gervais) aren’t enough for you the nearby resorts of Les Contamines (a hidden jewel with a great North-West aspect, Chamonix (home of the Vallée Blanche) and Les Houches (with it’s Olympic downhill) offer a wider selection of skiing.
During the summer there is a good mix of facilities with an open air swimming pool, tennis courts, crazy golf, two championship golf courses at near by Chamonix and Megeve. There are also many other outdoor activities including walking, climbing, mountaineering, white water rafting, paragliding and ice skating at the local ice rink

Myself, joined by various friends and family, spent three weeks at 10 Les Warens. The apartment is well located with a short walk to the main bubble lift and a pleasant walk into the charming town of St Gervais Les Bains. A baker and ski hire shop are just across the road. The apartment is spacious, comfortable, warm and well equipped. The underground garage was a bonus for us as we drove out. The only downsides were it was not as clean as we would have expected on arrival. Storage was limited as some of the cupboards were already full. There is no Wifi. The apartment is ideal for four people, possibly six, but I would not wish to be there with eight people! We had a most enjoyable stay I would consider renting this apartment again. |
