Vacances Vertes les Belles is a unique self-catering holiday house in the rural, Limousin region of central France - 'the land of a thousand lakes'. Situated in the heart of the friendly village of St Germain les Belles and surrounded by some of the loveliest countryside in France. Step out of the door and discover everything the village has to offer – local shops selling fine produce, restaurants, historic buildings, markets, swimming lake and beach..
The house has been entirely renovated and furnished to a high standard, with a tasteful and bright interior, many original features, including stunning oak flooring. Guests can choose from 6 lovely bedrooms, 5 of which have private shower / bathrooms. There is wheelchair access on the ground floor – please contact for further details. There is also a large private garden and dining terrace, with views out onto open countryside and buttercup meadows.
For a stimulating, rewarding and enjoyable break, come and join us with like-minded people on one of our residential courses which are held throughout the year. We currently offer 3 courses (held throughout the year or our tutors are available during your self-catering break) - Organic Gardening, Art and Design in Nature and Limousin Landscapes painting holidays.

The Limousin / Auvergne / Haute-Vienne region
Limousin has been called the 'French Lake District' and it has a beauty and charm all of its own with some of the most unspoilt, natural landscapes in France. Within this enchanting scenery, you are never far from a tranquil lake or a huge network of meandering country walks across rolling hills and forests. You will certainly be able to experience a slower pace of life and true rural French culture.
We are surrounded by swimming lakes, beaches and outdoor swimming pools. The beautiful Lake Vassiviere, Europe's largest man-made lake, is only 45 minutes away and is also the site of the national contemporary art gallery. Please ask us for details of some of the best lakes or outdoor pools to visit, especially for those with young children.
The abundance of water within Limousin also means that there are some fantastic fishing, canoeing, kayaking and sailing locations.
We are only 30 minutes away from the attractive city of Limoges – famous for its porcelain and old quarter. There is an abundance of interesting shops and boutiques, medieval churches, restaurants, antique markets and it is definitely well worth a visit. Other lovely historical towns and villages to visit include:
Pompadour (La Cité du Cheval) and its frequent equestrian events and château ; Uzerche on the stunning Vézère River; Segur le Château, one of the most beautiful villages in France; St Yriex la Perche, with its interesting shops, historic buildings and markets; St Leonard de Noblat, a stunning medieval town, surrounded by panoramic views; the lovely Château at Coussac Bonneval…
For the outdoor enthusiast and those of you who enjoy countryside rambling, there are numerous activities in the surrounding region. We can tell you all about our favourite walks, beauty spots and places to watch birds. If you enjoy cycling holidays, bicycle hire is available within the village and there are many local routes through quiet country villages.
There are also several Climbing locations in Limousin, including Aubazine (Saut de la Bergère), Bort-les-Orgues ( Orgues), Gros-Chastang (Le Pont de Sagne), Uzerche (Rocher du Moulin in the Vézère Gorges) and Voutezac (Saut du Saumont).

St Germain les Belles is a perfect example of a fine Limousin village - peaceful, attractive and nestling in beautiful countryside. It also boasts many attractions: · Tranquil village lake, sandy beach and children's play area, with supervised swimming and pedalo hire throughout the summer. The bar / restaurant is open to the public in the summer and has some fantastic themed nights with live music. · Bar-restaurants and several shops selling delicious local produce. · Typically French, winding, narrow streets and historic buildings, including the beautiful 14th century medieval village church. · Festivals, markets, dances, cinema showings, children's activities... · The village also boasts a bank, a railway service to Limoges, an estate agent, a petrol station, a pharmacy and 2 recycling points.
How to get there
You can find us in the village of St Germain les Belles, 4 hours south of Paris (270 miles or 425 km) and 30 minutes south of Limoges (22 miles or 35 km), the ‘capital’ of the Limousin, in Haute-Vienne. The village is conveniently located just 10 minutes drive from the A20 motorway (junction 42), the main route from Paris to the south of France. Our nearest airports are Limoges (40 minutes) and Bergerac (2 hours) and both are accessible through Flybe and Ryanair from more than 10 UK regional airports. We are more than happy to arrange airport pick-ups for you but there are several major hire car companies working from each airport (including Hertz and Europcar). NB: Prices may be subject to change at the owner's discretion. We do not specify that you have to rent the whole house for a week at a time - the whole house can be rented per night, throughout the year. You tell us your arrival / departure days.
Individual Room Rates...
Depending on the month, there is the possibility that individual rooms can be rented. We charge 45 euros per room, per night – please enquire for availability. All rooms can sleep 2 people and a third bed can be added to 3 of the rooms (to make a family room) at no extra charge.
We ask for a 25% deposit for all bookings and that full payment is received 8 weeks prior to your departure date. We accept:
French cheque in Euros. UK sterling cheques – a small charge of 15 pounds will be added. The secure internet payment method, Paypal (please add an extra 4% to the payment – most credit cards are accepted). International bank transfer. Banker’s euro cheques (please enquire at your bank).
