Home description
Our half timbered, self-catering gite, which we use ourselves, is set on a gentle incline in its own half acre meadow, bordered by our 2 acre deciduous forest. You can see why it's been called a 'Hanzel and Gretel' house.
It's perfect for walks and cycling straight from the door. It's at the end of a lane, surrounded by valleys, trees and meadows in a particularly beautiful and undulating part of Normandy ...
The cottage is small and simply furnished, but it contains all the basic essentials. The living room has a beamed ceiling and woodburner. There's a generous-sized kitchen. The shower-room/WC is on the ground floor. And up steep stairs, into the roof space, with original beams and two windows, is a double bed.
There's a patio with furniture and a beautiful forest view of La Vallee Blonde.
It's the perfect place to unwind, perhaps with a glass of wine, listening to the sounds of nature - the cuckoo, an owl, or the local woodpecker, and a host of other birds. You may even see deer.

The Normandy / Eure region
Normandy is famous for its cows and cheeses, its apple orchards and cider. You can follow the famous 'cheese trail' and sample the local cider. You can try the local open air markets - there's one for every day of the week within easy reach of the cottage.
And when you want a change from these bucolic activities, you can go down to the sea, or visit the cathedral city of Rouen or the medieval port of Honfleur, all of which are less than an hour's drive from the cottage. And, of course, Paris is just 2 hours away.
* Pont Audemer, 'the Venice of the North' is just a 15 minute drive from the cottage, with its canals and medieval buildings. A 10 minute drive will get you to the monastery at Bec Hellouin officially designated one of the most beautiful villages of France. There are also several châteaux and gardens to visit, including Monet's Garden at Giverney.
* The historic village of St-Georges-du-Vievre is just 3 km away, with its shops, post office, bank, restaurant, cafes, bars and tourist information centre. On your way there to fetch the morning bread, you can visit the medieval dovecot at Chateau Launay, our nearest neighbours to the West.
St Georges du Vievre area
* The historic village of St-Georges-du-Vievre, set around a square, is just 3 km away, with its butcher, baker, green grocer, tabac, post office, bank, restaurant, cafes, bars.
The village was a centre of Resistance during the 2nd World War. On your way there, to fetch the morning bread, you can visit the medieval dovecot at Chateau Launay. The tourist information centre, open in the high season, supplies leaflets and information on every activity.

Further details indoors: The living room (11 ft x 10 ft ) has exposed beams and a quarry tiled floor. It is furnished with simple country antiques and bric-a-brac, much of it found locally. There are two armchairs either side of a traditional blue enamel Godin wood burning stove. Help yourself to wood from the logpile if the evenings get colder while you are there.
The dining table seats up to four. Don't forget to bring your favourites CDs and audio cassettes to play. A good sized kitchen leads off the living room. it has a electric hob and a microwave. Cutlery and crockery and cooking utensils are provided.
The bedroom has oak beams exposed to the apex of the roof, the floor is of oak boards scattered with old Persian carpets. The brass bed is equipped with a standard double duvet and pillows.
You will need to bring your own bed linen and towels. The shower room and WC are on the ground floor.
Further details outdoors: You practically have the whole area to yourself, as our cottage is the only one on La Cote Toussaint. There are just two houses further down in the valley, and so you remain very private. You have sole use of our half acre meadow and 2 acre forest.
The hamlet of St Benoist-des-Ombres is 1 km away, up a hairpin bend. It has a beautiful church and a Marie which is even tinier than our cottage. Weather permitting, you can eat outside on the patio.
There is a metal table and chairs to seat four, and two further chairs with adjustable backs. You park the car on the track close to the cottage.
