A real hideaway, this delightful detached property is ideal for a romantic couple looking for a secluded spot in the Scottish Highlands with plenty of local amenities and activities as well as excellent access to the whole of Scotland by road. Providing very comfortable and well-equipped accommodation, the lodge is located on the outskirts of a picturesque highland village in the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. On the edge of a natural woodland forest, with the Tarken burn running by, it is ideal for those wanting immediate access to lovely country and hill walking.

Amble along the old railway route or take a more demanding walk up the hill to get the most amazing views of this beautiful area which is dotted with lochs and surrounded by hills and glens. Always keep a camera at the ready – from the windows you may well catch sight of an osprey fishing on the loch, wild deer grazing in the woodland or a red squirrel feeding in the garden. Golden eagles have even been reported locally by hill walkers.

Anyone interested in watersports will find many varied activities on the loch and golfers have a huge range of possibilities from the lovely little 9 hole course in the village to the world renowned courses at St Andrews, Gleneagles and Loch Lomond which are all within easy travelling distance, as indeed are the Trossachs, Edinburgh, Perth, Stirling and Glasgow.

“Perfect holiday hideaway” This is our third stay at Tarken Lodge and it never disappoints. Its location, tucked into the trees with views of the mountains (and a bit of the loch too), is ideal for getting away from it all. It's only an hour away from the central belt but it feels like a world away from busy town and city life. The owners are very nice and welcoming and only live down the hill if you need anything. The lodge is modern, cosy and well-equipped. It has been furnished to a high standard and the layout has been carefully thought through. You could easily spend a week in the lodge, sitting by the wood-burning stove and looking at the view. My husband and I spent the days out walking, with several routes on our doorstep, offering fantastic scenery and glimpses of wildlife. On return we warmed up with a dram of whisky on the verandah, listening to the sound of the nearby burn before spending the evenings reading by the stove. We ventured further afield on a couple of occasions as Crieff is 20 minutes away and Callander 30 mins (I would definitely recommend the Red Squirrel Cafe in Crieff!) St FIllans village shop is well-stocked and does nice coffee and breakfast rolls. We had dinnerr at both the Four Seasons and Achray House and we have to say that Achray House was our favourite. I don't think we'll ever tire of Tarken Lodge and we hope to return!

“High quality and well equipped comfortable lodge in a beautiful location” My husband and I had a most enjoyable week playing golf in Perthshire. Tarken Lodge is a clean, spacious, quality property which is well equipped to a high standard. The facilities are excellent with lots of thoughtful detail provided and wonderful views across the Loch. We shared the local 9 hole golf course with Sandy Lyle on our arrival day! Apparently St Fillans is his favourite Scottish inland course. There are also many excellent golf courses in close proximity - Auchterader, Gleneagles, Crieff, Murrayshall etc., we played six during the week. At the end of the day it was super to return to the cosy and comfortable lodge.

“Excellent accommodation in a perfect location.” We took our chocolate labrador for a relaxing week. The lodge catered to all of our needs and was located in a perfect, beautiful spot with plenty of walks around the lodge itself. We had a fantastic week and will definitely be making a return visit.

“Absolutely excellent!” This is a very well appointed cottage, extremely well thought out and designed by the owners who run Hamster Cottages. Clearly they have thought things through very well indeed and we have stayed there a total of three times now. Beautifully situated in St Fillans, you are within easy reach of good hotels, bars and restaurants and yet you are in wonderful peaceful surroundings with a very nice view. The cottage ticked all our boxes and we were able to take our two golden retrievers, have a lovely wood burning stove for the evenings and at the same time enjoy all the home comforts we would expect from a first class holiday let. It is a perfect spot for a couple who may want to bring their dog(s), and who want the peace, quiet and tranquility and to get away from the general hubub of life. We were most appreciative of the thought of the owners in providing a memory foam mattress for the double bed, having stayed in many other cottages where the bed has let the property down. It is very difficult to fault this cottage, apart from the fact that it would be nice to have it fenced off competely for the safety of pets. Lovely walks are on the doorstep along a disused railway line within a couple of minutes of the property. You are also within easy reach of many wonderful tourist spots. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the equipment excellent. On arrival we were welcomed by the owners who had also left us some homemade scones. Booking was very easy, directions to the property excellent and ease of access very good indeed. Overall, we were most impressed by the very high standard and layout of Tarken Lodge and we would highly recommend this property to anyone seeking a quiet retreat in very comfortable surroundings.

“Real hidden gem of a place” Anyone looking for a quiet cabin to escape for a holiday won't be disappointed with Tarken Lodge which is actually built on the hillside in the grounds of the owner's house. The interior is modern, light, warm (stove was hardly used as it was too hot) and has everything you need to make a perfect holiday base. Centrally located, we were able to visit loads of places that we normally bypass when heading to the North. Only downside was that the garden is not enclosed (only a problem if you have dogs with you).

“Home away from home” A lovely cottage. All you need for a comfortable stay is there. A great view, nice garden, walkingpaths from the cottage. A nice startingpoint to explore the Highlands. We stayed for 2 weeks. No regrets at all. Friendly people.
