The Cornwall region
We are definitely tucked out of the way… our nearest neighbours are in the farm at the bottom of the lane that leads to Middle Lanherne Barn. We are situated between St Mawgan and St Eval, close to Mawgan Porth and Watergate Bay beaches and the popular seaside towns Newquay and Padstow.
We are ideally situated to enjoy all that Cornwall has to offer, being approximately 6 miles from Padstow and Newquay and 4 miles from Watergate bay with its extreme academy & Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant. In fact there is no shortage of fabulous restaurants locally to enjoy and sample some of the finest cuisine in Britain.
With so much to see and do during your holiday you will be spoilt for choice!
We are so lucky to have The Extreme Academy at Watergate Bay only a few miles away with two miles of perfect beach to play on and an awesome adrenalin sports school offering lessons on Surfing, Kite surfing, Traction Kite, Wave ski & Stand-up paddle surf as well as great places to eat and chill out – if this activity floats your boat (groan – sorry!) then you can’t get anywhere better.
For those Adrenalin Junkies amongst us the Adventure Centre at Lusty Glaze beach offers a vast array of adventures on the water, land and cliffs! You can even finish the day with a massage in one of their beautiful beachside cabanas!
There are so many extreme sports in Cornwall and the best place to find out all about them is the Adventure Activities Cornwall website. We are sure that you will be spoilt for choice!
If you fancy a slower paced water based activity then why not try Canoeing with Encounter Cornwall – they also offer scuba Diving, cycle hire, and hiking.
There are plenty of walks in Cornwall – just bring an ordinance survey map, and off you go! One of the most famous walks is The Camel Trail – a 17 mile traffic free route based on an historic railway track. It’s virtually flat for the entire length and is suitable for everyone, dogs and cyclists are welcome as are horse riders (at a walk only!), there are some codes of conduct to observe and it’s free to use.
Carnewas & Bedruthan Steps close to St Eval is one of the most popular destinations of the Cornish coast with spectacular cliff top views stretching across Bedruthan beach. There is a charge to park here as this site is run by the National Trust.
Golf, Fishing and Horse riding is all available locally.
St Eval Kart Circuit is situated a couple of miles away from us – it’s a massive outdoor 1.2km track! Great fun for all those budding Jensen Buttons amongst you!
There are many attractions in Cornwall to visit during your stay with Newquay, Padstow and Watergate bay being so close but Cornwall has a host of other attractions on offer that your only problem will be working out how to fit it all in!
Minack Theatre – An open air theatre dramatically situated on the cliffs at Porthcumo near Land’s End and hosts a season of plays and musicals from May to September.
The Hidden Valley Discovery Park – Discover one of Cornwall’s best-kept secrets! An extraordinary place that is nothing like you have experienced before. Where imagination has flowed into every little corner, with hidden delights waiting in all sorts of places – where all the family can have fun together!
Lappa Valley Steam Railway – Living Steam in a magical setting! In the unique historic setting of the Lappa Valley you will find loads of fun things to do and discover! There are three separate miniature railways running through this oasis of conservation, where wildlife thrives in a protected environment. It’s a great place to enjoy peace and quiet away from it all….
St Michael’s Mount – Explore the amazing island world of St Michael’s Mount ?and discover legend, myth and over a thousand years ?of incredible history…Stroll across the causeway where a legendary giant once walked. Follow the footsteps of pilgrims. Boat hop to an island where modern life meets layers of history. Discover a medieval castle, a sub-tropical paradise and a close-knit island community.
Tamar Otter and Wildlife Centre – On your visit to the Tamar Otter & Wildlife Centre you will see British and Asian Short Clawed Otters playing and being fed close at hand. There are Fallow Deer in a woodland enclosure and you will see Wallabies and Muntjac Deer roaming around the 21-acre grounds.
Paradise Park – Cornwall’s top wildlife sanctuary and Jungle Barn indoor play centre. ?Your family will love a day in Paradise . . . whatever the weather
The Eden Project – The Eden Project in Cornwall was built in a disused clay mine, transforming it into a rich, global garden where people can learn about nature and get inspiration about the world around them.
Tintagel Castle – Its wonderful location, set high on the rugged North Cornwall coast, offers dramatic views, and its fascinating ruins and stunning beach cafe make it a perfect day trip. Tintagel Castle is steeped in legend and mystery; said to be the birthplace of King Arthur, you can still visit the nearby Merlin’s Cave.
There are so many great restaurants to choose from it would be impossible to list them all but here are a selection to whet your appetite!
Rick Steins Seafood Restaurant – Padstow – bookings essential
Rick Steins St Petroc’s Bistro – Padstow – bookings essential
Stein’s Fish and Chips
Jamie Olivers Fifteen Cornwall – bookings essential

"Fantastic barn, in a peaceful spot with easy access to the best of Cornwall"
We stayed at The Barn during the 1st week of July and despite the rain, we had the most relaxing break. The barn is well kitted out. Great to be able to purchase local produce and take it back to the well resourced kitchen. Plenty of farms nearby selling eggs, meat and all sort of delicious produce. The Barn is based in such beautiful surroundings, peaceful yet not too remote. St Mawgan is a fabulous village with a great pub and a little cafe - selling the best cream teas. Watergate Bay is on your doorstep, to indulge in a great meal at Fifteen as well as the Beach hut. Padstow and Rock are easily accessible and make for great days out. Michelle and Darren are creating a real piece of Cornish tranquility. You won't regret staying here :-)
Thank you so much for this review, it was great to meet you and I throughly enjoyed our horse ride together! x
