The Northern France / Nord-Pas-de-Calais region
The sea is omnipresent in this beautiful often overlooked region of France called the Cote d'Opale or Opal Coast. Impressive cliffs, mile upon mile of clean sandy beaches, ancient fishing villages and dunes, hills and forests abound in the local area. The fortress city of Boulogne is just 10 minutes drive away with its ancient walls, fishing port, acquarium and lively shops and markets.

Guestbook for Sea View
"Our stay at your house was one of the best holidays we've ever had. The wonderful beaches nearby, the mulititude of interesting places to visit, the friendly neighbours and the fantastic food all made for a very special break." SB, May 2008
"We had a lovely relaxing holiday and found the house to be very comfortable and well equipped. The garden with it's secure fence was a real asset for us with our dog. (Equally useful to those guests with small children). A peaceful time was spent in the garden or walking in the nearby forest, around the lakes at Condette and at Hardelot Plage which was only 15-20 mins away. Here there is a good sandy beach with plenty to see and do as well as a selection of shops, cafes and restaurants. There are also a small supermarkets at both Condette and Hardelot catering for most needs. For those guests with a dog, there is an English speaking vet nearby which we found to be a real bonus. We will definitely be coming back again." PH, Southampton, July 2008
"To start with the house is just about perfect for a holiday - beautifully equipped and furnished and really couldn't be better...We were really taken with the area and loved Equihen Plage, a particularly wonderful and civilised beach for children - once the weather turned in our favour. For the first few days it was very wet and windy but we enjoyed trips to Nausicaa and the Ecault Sand Dune Centre. The Lake at Hardelot Chateau was also a big hit with the children for feeding the ducks - don't know why but they're a bit more agressive then the ones we're used to on the Thames in Berkshire, but that all added to the entertainment! We also spent a day in Le Touquet and took the children to the Aqualud park which was again a thorough hit. We're so impressed with the area that we're likely to go back next year and are even thinking of buying a holiday house of our own. We had previously thought the North coast to be a bit of a non-entity - how wrong we were. Thanks for all your help in sorting the booking and helping make our holiday a smooth and successful trip." SB, Reading, July 2008
"We found the house comfortable and well equipped. It was also warm ...It made a good base for touring, we particularly enjoyed the coast road north of Wimereux and St Valery and Le Crotoy to the south. Once again, many thanks." PL, Wolverhampton, October 2008
"This was our first experience of booking through the 'Holiday Lettings' site. Previously we had browsed but felt a little cautious about making arrangements with strangers!
We really enjoyed our break at Ecault, the area is very rural and typically French. It was a wonderful opportunity to explore the region that many holiday makers simply drive straight through. The owner provided us with plentiful information about both the accommodation and the area prior to our arrival and the directions took us straight to the door.
The beach at Equihen is ideal for walking; expansive and wild with dunes and forests. The nearby village of Hardelot boasts it's own magical Chateau and there are quaint bars and restaurants to enjoy also. The busy harbour town of Boulogne is a short drive away. There are numerous shops and we celebrated our daughter's birthday at Hôtel et Restaurant Hamiot on the seafront. This was very reasonably priced and the food was delicious.
We would thoroughly recommend this holiday home, the owner is very friendly and helpful and the accommodation is excellent." W & F C, Shropshire, January 2009
"Our family really enjoyed our stay in the Ecault cottage. The house was very comfortable and well-equipped, and warmed up cozily on the cold winter days. The location was very convenient and easy to get to from the Calais ferries. We enjoyed visiting World War I and WWII sites and battlefields as well as the beautiful coastal towns and French countryside, using the house as our base. We hope to stay there again!" J and R S, North Yorkshire, England, January 2009
"Our holiday was wonderful. Lots of nice weather and a beautiful area!" PW, Netherlands, June 2009
"We thoroughly enjoyed staying in a clean modern house with glorious beaches nearby. The weather was wonderful." WG, London, July 2009
"We enjoyed our stay very much. The house is very complete and very comfortable. It was a nice welcome to find some things to eat and drink in the fridge.
The environment is lovely with the beaches and forest nearby. We didn't expect the climbs up and down in the dunes, but it was an adventure for the kids.
We all enjoyed the aquarium Nausicaa very much and we went to Denlys park and Le Touquet. Also we had a nice dinner in the restaurant you recommended (l'oie gourmande)." A & I. V, The Netherlands, August 2009
"This is our second visit to this property and again we found it to be very well equipped and with as fully enclosed/fenced garden.
The nearby town of Hardelot is only about 15 mins away and there are plenty of restaurants and cafes there along with various shops, a supermarket, post office and of course the beach. Pleasant walks can be had along the coast between Equihen and Hardelot.
Venturing further afield there is Etaples and Le Touquet on the coast and Arras and Ardres inland.
There are also numerous WWII museums etc in this part of the country which are worth a visit if the weather is not too good. We visited Blockhaus and La Coupole and found both to be very interesting.
The newly rebuilt castle near Condette is also worth a visit and is host to plays and musical evenings which are free to enter. The adjacent lakes also make for a nice walk. Perfect on a hot summer evening.
We enjoyed a nice meal at Aux Pecheurs D'Etaples in Boulogne and would recommend this for a fine seafood meal.
Looking forward to returning in the near future." PH, Southampton, August 2009
Fam. Lahm-Henseler aus der Pfalz, August 2009
We had a lovely time at the house and there were no problems. We found it light and airy, attractive, very comfortable and exceptionally well equipped. It was very hot and sunny on the Monday and we enjoyed spending a few hours on the lovely sandy beach at Equihen.
We would defenitely recommend your house to others. K and P O, Worcester, September 2009
"We enjoyed a great week in August 2009 in this charming and accessible area of France. We especially liked Equihen Plage, Boulogne Old City and the Arras Caves. The house was super - large, clean and the English owner was most helpful to us - paying in Sterling was a particular boon this year!" AH, Cumbria, September 2009
