About this location
The Pembrokeshire region
St Dogmaels contains the impressive remains of a Medieval Tironensian (Benedictine) Abbey founded c. 1113. The Abbey remains lie next to St. Thomas's Church (Church of Wales), which was built in Victorian times.
A recent addition to the Abbey area is the "Coach House", or "Cartws", which was opened in 2008 after extensive renovation to the original Vicarage coach house. This facility now acts as a visitor centre, museum, meeting place and cafe and also hosts a bustling Local Producers Market every Tuesday morning. The Coach House is located opposite the village mill pond which is still used to provide water for the nearby "Y Felin", one of Wales last remaining working water mills producing traditional stoneground flour.
