The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Vaucluse region
A charming area of France, Provence is a great area to discover and has many lovely villages to vist. You get the opportunity to walk through idylic landscape and beautiful cities. With a Mediterranean climate the area has little rain and hot, dry summers.
The village with its tree lined avenue of shops, good restaurants & all important cafe bars, is very well situated for all the main attractions that Provence has to offer. Vaison la Romaine, with one side of the river Roman, & the other medieval, Gigondas, Chateauneuf du Pape & Beaumes de Venise, renowned for their world famous wines. I'lsle sur la Sorgue, for its Sunday antique fair, and the spectacular hill top village of Gordes, steeped in history. Arles, and Aix en Provence are an hour away.
St. Didier area
St.Didier is a very beautiful, unspoilt village, with a small supermarket, butchers, cave, bakers, newsagents, bars and restaurants etc. It also has a post office, small hotel, and tennis courts. The main street is shaded, in summer, by an avenue of plane trees. The house is wonderfully situated for the village, and is very special, in that it is a large village house with a beautiful garden and pool, in a quiet situation.
It is a wonderful area to explore , with its many beautiful villages, each with their own market days. The papal city of Avignon , and Carpentras, famous for its truffle market , are both near by. They both have excellent shops, and long summer festivals with music, dance, & theatre. Avignon 's cultural activities continue throughout the winter. All the local villages have fetes during the long hot summer months. For antique lovers, the world famous market at L'lisle- sur -la -Sorgue is a short drive away. The unique Vaison La Romaine, medieval on one side of its river, and with Roman remains the other side, is just the to the North of the Mount Ventoux .
Canoeing and mountaineering activities are also ideal in this area. English-speaking homeowners live in the area and can advise on walking/climbing holidays.
