The Burgundy region

The house is situated midway between Beaune and Macon in the Cote Chalonaise region of Burgundy. The village is on the Burgundy wine route and has 6 caves within the village.

There are 4 golf courses between 20 and 45 minutes away.

As far as outdoors activities are concerned, Burgundy abounds in possibilities.

Walkers have 3800 miles of paths at their disposal which give the opportunity to discover various aspects of the region (nature, culture, history, architecture) and meet the people who live in the countryside.

Horse-riding is also very popular in Burgundy and numerous equestrian tours are organized by several companies.

Biking is probably one of the best ways to see the countryside, either on the small roads through the vineyards, on the Voie Verte or on more difficult tracks in the Morvan where mountain-bikers will have a ball.

La Voie Verte (Green Way)

The chance to cycle, roller-skate or quite simply walk along a safe track mercifully free of motor traffic – isn't that we dream of for our holidays or outings?

Cycling along the "Voie Verte" in Burgundy

From Givry to Cluny (44 km), from Saint-léger-sur-Dheune to Chalon-sur-Saône (31 km), from Cluny to Charnay-les-Mâcon (21 km) or from Digoin to Paray-le-Monial (17 km) the Voie Verte (green way) snakes through various landscapes, picturesque villages and vineyards.

Horse-riders can take a separate trail along the Voie Verte, from the Cluny equestrian centre to Santenay.

The “Tour de Bourgogne à vélo ®”

This ambitious project of 800 km of paths is designed to open up the whole of Burgundy to mountain bike enthusiasts and indeed all cyclists. When completed, this itinerary should join up the towpaths of the Nivernais Canal, the Yonne, the Bugundy Canal, the Canal du Centre and the Saône.

Some of the towpaths are already opened : 120 km from Beaune to Mâcon, 190 km along the Nivernais Canal from Decize to Clamecy and Auxerre and 180 km along the Burgundy Canal, from Tonnerre to Dijon.

So, why don't you take your bike and, from picturesque villages to famous vineyards, enjoy landscapes of exceptional charm!

St Denis de Vaux

The chateaux of Cormatin, which has regular summer music festivals, Couches and Rochepot as well as the famous Hospice de Beaune are all within easy reach.

The village of Saint Jean de Vaux, 1 kilometre away has a baker. There is also a swimming pool open during July and August.

The local region is very well served with cultural and other events during the summer. Apart from the local tourist office websites these sites provide listings of events across the region.

Specific activities which we have enjoyed are:

Hot air balloon festival in Chalon

Music concerts held in a medieval wine cellar.

Music concerts at the beautiful Clos Vougeot Chateau.

Concerts and theatre in a Roman amphitheatre.

Street theatre and related artistic events in Chalon.

Open air Roman history spectacular in Autun

Friday Night Market in St Gengoux le National around the middle of the month.

A weekend of free wine tasting at all the wine producers in the Couches valley.

If you are interested in Horses the National stud farm in Cluny is worth a visit. They have many competitions and equestrian cabarets through the year.

Friday Night Market in St Gengoux le National around the middle of the month.

3 weekends of music concerts in Gevrey Chambertin.

Jazz concerts in Beaune.

Other events that take place during the year are:

Concerts in a beautiful medieval church.

Fairs, markets, wine tastings and other events in Meursault.

Jazz concerts.

"Delightful cottage with stunning views."

What a lovely house in a tranquil setting! Sitting out on the balcony in the evenings, enjoying the local wines, breads and cheeses, surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills; this place was magical. … More

"Great accomodations with unbelievable views of vineyards"

We visited as two couples interested in biking the back roads in France and we found plenty but had to leave some unexplored until next time. The place is within easy driving distance to some of the best wineries in Burgundy. The accomodations were very comfortable and had all the amenities necessary to enjoy meals at home in the evenings and enjoying the views of the surrounding vineyards. It was interesting to keep and eye on the horses next door as they changed positions when the wind changed. We will definately try to make another visit in future.
