About the home

L'Echerbaudière is situated in Northern Mayenne on the outskirts of St Denis de Gastines and close to the towns of Ernée and Mayenne. Set in over 3 acres of private gardens, surrounded by the Mayenne countryside, it is the perfect rural retreat, offering a peaceful relaxing holiday.

L'Ancienne Maison and L'Arch have been tastefully renovated to offer modern, comfortable, flexible accommodation that is suitable for groups, families and couples. The inter-connecting door between the two gîtes enables the flexibility for renting for up to 7 people and when booked together benefits from exclusive use of all facilities. It is the perfect location for those wishing to explore the interesting Mayenne region or some of the relatively nearer French tourist attractions and for those seeking leisure facilities: horse-riding, cycling, walking, fishing, golf and swimming etc, are all close by.

Guests have the full use of the upper lawn, where you will find the large above ground pool (which is solar heated from mid June - mid September (weather permitting)) and also two patio areas with garden furniture and sun loungers, BBQ facilities and table tennis. At the side of the building is the large paddock which is ideal for children to play ball games etc and here you can also find the badminton net for those who may fancy a game or two.

The large games room is situated next door to L'Arch and offers the opportunity for baby football, pool/snooker, darts, large chess/draughts as well as a large choice of board games, puzzles and books. There is also a TV with a DVD player, PS1 with a few a games and an extensive list of films that can be borrowed.

For guests that might wish to cycle or walk there are extensive off-road cycle tracks available on tow paths and disused railway tracks and an abundance off bridal paths within the area. We do have some bicycles available for guest use, however they are not suitable for off-road use.

The Loire Valley / Mayenne region

There are numerous towns and villages close by that offer the opportunity for interesting visits: Mayenne, Laval, Portmain, Vitré, Lassay Les Châteaux and Ambrières are just a few. The medieval town of Fougères is well worth exploring and is only a 30 minute drive. Laval also has a golf course and offers both an 18 and 9 hole course.

Le Mont St Michel (France's 2nd most visited tourist attraction) with its magnificent Abbey in the bay, quaint shops and restaurants offers a memorable day trip and is within a 2 hour drive. A must for all visitors.

Saint-Malo is the same distance and offers a walled city, cobbled streets, interesting architecture and an abundance of crêperies, restaurants and shops as well as beautiful beaches for an afternoons relaxation before the drive home.

The St Denis de Gastines area

L'Echerbaudière nestles in the gentle rolling coutryside of Northern Mayenne situated close to the towns of Ernée (10 kms) and Mayenne (16 kms).

The local village of St Denis de Gastines has two bars, two bakers, a small supermarket, bank facilities and horse-riding. There are numerous local châteaux well worth a visit and both river and lake fishing are within a 15 minute drive.
For those who like to cycle or walk, there are over 200kms of beautiful off-road cycle tracks close by and plenty of bridal paths both on the doorstep and within the local area.

“fabulous gite, great for family holiday,” As a family of 2 young children, plus grandparents, there was lots to do, to keep everyone happy; swimming, badminton, football, plus lots to explore in the area. We were extremely lucky with the weather so didn't make use of the games room. The owners were really helpful with advice on where to visit and suggestions for restaurants to try. We had a wonderful holiday.

“A home from home.” This was our second visit to L'Echerbaudiere. As before, we received a wonderful welcome from the owners. The gite was immaculate and weather was nice which enabled us to spend some time in the beautiful garden and the pool. It is a peaceful, rural location but close enough to Vitre and Fougeres for day visits. The buildings and gardens are really well maintained and the owners are very accomodating. We stayed with our one year old daughter and the gite was fine for a toddler. The owner put up a stairgate for us and there was a new cot and highchair, which was great. There is also a well equipped games room which is really good if the weather isn't so good. I'm sure we will go back.
