Les Fregates
About the home
Les Fregates is a very attractive complex of apartments, set in beautifully matured and maintained grounds right next to a long, sandy beach. With beautiful views across the to the sea one way and to the Pyrennes the other, the apartment overlooks the communal pools which have a grassed area for sun bathing. There is a very useful and well stocked shop within the complex as well as a small pizzaria, with further, more extensive shopping and dining facilities nearby. The location of the apartment is ideal - right on the beach and in a peaceful setting, yet convenient for the bustling Port area with its many restaurants and entertainments. The apartment has its own parking space within a private, gated car park.
The surrounding area has a fantastic variety of activities and places of intest, culturally, scenically and historically. Our family has been visiting the region for 30 years and we are still discovering new things to see and do! The area has been developed sympathetically to provide visitors with all they need (and more) and yet has still retained its charm and beauty and a strong sense of Cathar history.

Off the living area there is a door to the bedroom and sliding doors out onto the beautifully sunny balcony, with dining table, 4 chairs and parasol - ideal for eating al fresco and relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine. The bedroom, whilst compact in size, is pleasantly furnished with a comfortable double bed and cupboard / dressing table and has a window overlooking the pool and with views across to the sea. One of the main benefits of the apartment is that it is right next to the beach which makes it so easy to pop back to it for perhaps lunch or a drink or simply if you forgot the sun cream! Entry is strictly limited (by key) to residents and their tenants. Please note that the pool is open between mid June to the end of September.
There is a very good and useful small shop on site, supplying fresh bread (baked on the premises), croissants, rotisserie chickens and a good range of other products. A small pizzeria, supplying excellent take-away pizzas is also on the apartment complex. There is an excellent small shopping centre a few minutes away selling a wide range of goods including wonderful local fresh produce.
The apartments have some shared garden / grassed areas near the shop and there are public telephones and next to the apartment complex.
The apartment has an allocated parking space within the gated car park.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region

The region of Languedoc-Rousillon has a fantastic array of activities and sight seeing on offer. Not only does it benefit from 125 miles of golden sandy sun-drenched beaches boasting the highest annual sunshine in the whole of France, but also from the beauty and cultural wealth of the Pyrenean foothills. There are many towns, cities and villages to visit such as Perpignan and its 14th century fortifications; the spectacular Ancient medieval fortress of Carcasonne; Castelnou, a delightful fortified village built on the summit of a mountain in the Pyrenees; Port Vendres, a picturesque fishing harbour and Ceret, a town favoured by many famous artists and where, in Catalan tradition, you can see activities such as sardana dancing. Picturesque Villefranche de Confluent is well worth a visit and from there you can take a ride on "Le Petit Train Jaune" through beautiful mountain scenery to "La Tour de Carol". The nearby villages of both Elne, with its ancient cloisters and butterfly sanctuary and Collioure, surely one of the most picturesque fishing villages on the whole coast, with narrow cobbled streets and lovely little boutique shops, must both be seen. The Spanish border is only a 30 minute drive and Barcelona only about 2 hours. The Dali Museum in Figueras , the pretty village of Cadaques, and the tax free shopping town of Le Perthus as well as Barcelona, make great excursions into Spain.
There are also numerous natural sights to enjoy such as the nature reserves of the Mas Larrieu on the coast and the Forest of La Massane in the Albères Mountains. Many natural wonders can be visited in the region like the La Fou Gorges at Arles-sur-Tech, the amazing rock formations, “Les Orgues” near Ille-sur-Tet and the Grandes Canalettes Caves at Villefranche-de-Conflent.
