Small village life lets you walk to the bakery and restaurant yet still be in the countryside of rolling hills, valleys, farms separated by hedgerows, rivers and chateaux. Safe, quiet, and stress free, St Clementin is know as a very charming village with very friendly people.
At 20 minutes from the largest Japanese gardens in Europe, 45 minutes from Le Puy du Fou (fantastic history themed park!) 45 minutes to the Loire valley chateaux and surrounded by nature walks and cycling opportunities you have the best of French life: fresh bread in the morning, visits to what interests you (we can suggest options if you don't know the region), and return home to comfort and tranquility. Endless interesting attractions are nearby.
La Chouette is all on one level with three bedrooms (two doubles and a twin room), a huge garage underneath and gardens in front and back, measuring 127 square meters (1350 square feet) on a property of one third acre. The American owners have the property adjoining and can answer your questions and assure your comfort.
The house is ideal for a couple or a couple with older children who wants a luxurious home base for visiting this interesting area and decompressing from modern life. You may stay connected to modern life with internet, television, telephone or profit from the lack of stress to be found only in a country village.
The large semi-underground garage below the house helps maintain cool temperatures in the house in the summer months and is ideal for furniture storage for those looking for a home in the area.

The Poitou-Charentes region
The Vendee is known for blue, sunny skies, no pollution; a region unspoiled by modern life. The pace is unhurried, the roads are traffic free, the people are warm and welcoming. One of the most interesting regions because of the War of the Vendee (after the French revolution of 1789) it is an area of small villages and farms, a modest lifestyle and simple family life.
Besides being second to the Cote d'Azur in sunny days the region is second to Provence in the number of Roman sites. There are many churches, arenas and amphitheaters to visit, all a day trip from La Chouette.
Women in the Deux Sevres have the longest life expectancy in France and men have the second longest, evidence of the lack of stress, clean air and good, local grown food. Farmers markets are found every day in one village or another with not only locally grown fruits and vegetables but our region has been known for 150 years as the supplier of beef, pork and poultry to the restaurants of Paris.
The Deux Sevres is also known as a "region familial", there is a tradtional emphasis on strong, close family life.
The great beaches of the Atlantic coast are 1H30minutes west
Paris is 2H30 by train
Le Puy du Fou, a history themed park that not only tells the history of our region with knights on horses and re-creations of 17th, 18th and 19th century villages, but even has an authentic Roman amphitheater with gladiators, chariot races, lions and tigers (this is not to be missed!)
Le Parc Oriental, the largest Japanese gardens in Europe is 20 minutes west, created in the mid-1800's, has a spectacular setting in a valley with a lake and a huge variety of mature trees and ornamental plants, all overlooked by Chateau Colbert. (This is not to be missed also!)
The Loire Valley is 45 minutes north, therefore a great number of chateau visits possible as day trips. At 30 minutes north, the Chateau de Brissac (pictured in our photo group) is the tallest in France, in the same family since 1502 (the current Duke de Brissac and family reside there), has guided tours in English of it's vast, furnished rooms and is well worth the visit.
For equestrian fans Le Cadre Noir, in a forest near Saumur, at 40 minutes north, is an important site, the location for national and international dressage competitions in a magnificent setting with indoor and outdoor arenas and stables for 400 horses. It is a very active center.
Local wineries provide superb value for money in reds and both dry and sweet whites as well as their version of Champagne, the best wine bargains in France!
Our village, St Clementin, has an impeccably restored 12th century Chapel des Rosiers with 15th century frescoes. It is a village dating from at least Gallo-Roman times, having been mentioned in clerical documents of the 10th century and is on an important Roman crossroads. The bell tower of the church is one of only four in France to come from the workshop of Gustav Eiffel. It is a clean, tidy village with well-maintained granite homes and walls; the word "charmant" is often applied by those who know the town. It has a superb boulangerie, excellent restaurant, a classic bar, tennis courts, soccer fields, and indoor gymnasium.
Bressuire, our main market town at 12km south, has an 11th century chateau that has been the site of the World and European Highland games and is considered one of the top five sites in the world for the Games. It has all commercial services without being bustling and crowded and has train service to Paris, two weekly farmers markets, a museum with permanent and changing exhibitions, one of the top tennis centers in France and a newly opened swimming complex. Scattered throughout the town are sculptures created by artists who participate in the annual sculputure exhibitions on the grounds of the chateau.
Argenton Les Vallees, at 4 km, has a lake (you can rent pedal boats), a swimming complex, a working windmill (fantastic!), and guided history walks. Close to Argenton is a superb International Karting track where you can rent carts by the hour, promising performance and safety (not just limited to kids!).
Walking and cycling opportunities are abundant.
There is a newly completed conversion of a railroad right-of-way that is now a cycling/walking route, free of cars, virtually flat, that takes you through over 50km of countryside over stone railroad bridges, linking villages formerly served by a regional line in the 19th century (found at Voultegon, one mile from here).

"Very Spacious Gite"
A very comfortable gite with all mod cons, tastefully decorated with French furnishings. All the rooms were of ample size. Roger made us feel at home straight away and the welcome pack was much appreciated. The gite is well situated for places to visit within the local area. For those keen on walking/jogging or cycling there is a disused railway line which has been converted to a 'rue verte' about a five minute drive away.
