Les 2 Jardins du Soleil
About the home
This ground floor gite, with its own private walled garden and pool, was built in the 19th century in a friendly small village in the midst of the magnificent landscape of Languedoc vineyards. The village has a bakery, post office, tennis court, and petanque garden. The building is newly decorated to a high standard, whilst retaining the stone & wooden features of this classic vigneron stone house.
If you just want to relax in the fresh air, you could spend your holiday beside the pool, as the Summer Kitchen in the garden has a Barbecue and patio dining area.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Herault region

This region has over 300 days of sunshine and has the second hottest weather in France (Corsica is number 1).
If you like getting out & about on your holiday, you will find a great variety of landscape and things to do:
- the Mediterranean beaches are sandy and stretch from Montpellier down to Perpignan. So you can go to a seaside town to browse round the shops & markets; try the local restaurants; go for a trip round the bay in a glass bottomed boat; or just find space for yourself to relax and picnic on the beach.
- then there are the Black Mountains with well marked, great walks and cycling. A book of varying difficulty routes is to hand in the house. There are also picturesque lakes and rivers in the area.
- there are ancient towns and buildings to visit such as the Cathar Castles on stunning rock outcrops close to the Pyrenees, or alternatively the modern city of Montpellier which has been voted France's best City to live in. Both can be reached by car in approx. 1hr 15mins.
- there is the modern wonder of the new bridge at Millau (approx. 1hr 35 mins by car) that is a very popular tourist attraction surrounded by stunning scenery and plenty of other facilities.
- in August there is the water jousting at Sete.
These are just some of the diverse sides to the area you can go and explore, if you don't want to lounge around the pool at home for your stay.
The St Chinian / Cebazan area
A five minute walk in the village takes you to the wine co-operative that produces the wine for the surrounding 11 villages. Excellent wine to have with lunch or in the evening, and very good value.
The nearest town is St Chinian. It is just 5 kms (5 mins by car) and has:
- 5 restaurants
- a weekly local market, plus 1 supermarket and 1 mini-mart
- very helpful local people in the regional wine shop where you can find out about all the different wines of the area
- bike hire shop
Within 20 minutes drive you can also find canoeing at Cessenon-sur-Orb; horse riding at Creissan; tranquil paths for a stroll along the Canal du Midi at Capestang.

We received a very warm welcome from the owners, which after a long drive from the South of England and a late Sunday arrival was most appreciated. We chose it for the outdoor kitchen and pool and it couldnt have been better. Very clean, well presented and fully equipped. Perfect for chilling out or as a base to tour the area. Cannot recommend it enough but you definitely need the car! |
