The Jersey region
Jersey is a fascinating island with a diverse historyy, very different to the UK mainland or indeed France. The Channel Islands are warmed by the Gulf Stream which helps make them the sunniest place in Britain.
The beaches are stunning and are great locations for people watching. There are regular food festivals and the now famous Tennerfest eating event in October/November where over 100 restaurants offer specially reduced menus.
Talking of food we are very lucky with the massive range of restaurants serving lots of local produce as well as fresh fish and different food styles from around the world as well as traditional British Fare. The fish market is a must-see in St Helier and a real experience. A delight if you enjoy cooking and lots of things to put on the barbecue too.
The Channel Islands are the only part of Britain to be occupied during the Second World War and this is well documented at award winning venues throughout the island. You can visit the Ancient Mont Orgueil castle where the atmosphere of times gone past have been recreated. Just 5 minutes walk from us is the Hamptonne Museum that shows farm life in Jersey as it was in the 17th Century. Its so authentic that filming took place here for a famous Hollywood movie (whose name I forget right now: answers on a postcard!)
For the younger ones there is a lively nightlife in St Helier with lots of bars and clubs to dance the night away.
St. Brelade / St Brelade's Bay area
St Brelade's bay is a stunning location with a sandy beach and a choice of restaurants, bar and cafe. There is a beautiful park within walking distance of the bay. The bay faces south-west so gets the best of the good weather. Watersports and children's play facilities are available nearby. The promenade is a great place to take an early evening stroll to eat or drink or just to wind down after a busy day.
