Home description
A beautifully restored stone farmhouse in the mountains, surrounded by fragrant pine forest and with stunning views across the valley. The house itself has been tastefully and sympathetically decorated and has all modern facilities. It is great for families and also ideal for most other people looking for a quiet holiday or a more active and sporty break. The garden is open and natural and leads straight into the surrounding forest from where you can set off on wonderful scenic walks. This is the perfect place for anyone who wants to be surrounded by nature and who enjoys rambling, more gentle walks, cycling, swimming, windsurfing, riding. For the daredevil amongst you there is an enormous off-road motor bike/quad centre approx. 10km from the house. Our nearest village is around 2km away where you will find all you need for every day. You will also find wonderful specialist local foods and crafts, an art gallery... and one of France's few 3 star Michelin restaurants, Le Clos des Cimes (Regis Marcon) - great for foodies! St Bonnet le Froid is also famous for its Mushroom Festival in October/November. There are also several other local restaurants and a typical French 'bar' serving delicious regional lunches.
There are many activities in the surrounding area from swimming in the lake and riding, to off road motor sports. A great place for a truly relaxing holiday with fabulous walks. It is also great for 'keen' cyclists! Painting and drawing courses with a talented local artist are also available. A wonderful place to get away from it all and enjoy nature at its most beautiful.

The Rhone / French Alps / Ardeche region
The nearest village to Rajasse is home to one of the few 3 star Michelin restaurants in France owned and run by Regis Marcon. A true gastronomic delight... but book well in advance. The friendly local cafe serves delicious homemade meals.
The area is renowned for its mushroom festival in October and also for its Chestnut festival. All sorts of festivities are arranged for these and enormous fun is had by all! The village itself has a superb tea room/patisserie/boulangerie run by Regis Marcon - great for breakfast, morning coffee or teatime. They also sell divine take away bread, cakes, jams etc... The cheese shop sells superb fresh local cheeses, with the speciality being goat cheeses. There is an excellent and helpful butcher who provides top quality meat. The grocer sells everything from organic pasta sauce to loo roll! There is an art gallery, a shop selling hand made baskets, and a garage with 2 petrol pumps. Not bad for a village of just 220 inhabitants!

Further details indoors: The house has been very tastefully and traditionally restored using beautiful fabrics and antique furniture. It is warm and cosy in the winter with underfloor heating, a Godin woodburning stove in the dining room and a huge open stone fireplace in the sitting room. In the summer, thanks to metre thick stone walls, the house provides a cool retreat from the hot daytime sun. It also ensures everyone enjoys a good night's sleep! Right down to the pure cotton bed sheets we have tried to make the house a joy to stay in. It is a family house and has been decorated and furnished to a very high standard but in such a way as to make visitors (and their children) feel welcome and at home.
Further details outdoors: The garden is very natural and there is patio area with an old stone wheel table at the front of the house where you can enjoy breakfast or an evening drink. The view from the house is wonderful and the air is filled with the scent of fragrant pine trees.
You may well glimpse deer flitting across the garden or if you are really lucky, catch a glimpse of a wild boar and its young as night falls. it is a magical place to be any time of the year.
Autumn is divine in Rajasse as wild mushrooms grow in abundance in the forest and you can fill baskets with delicious ceps, chanterelles and other varieties. In the summer there are bushes of wild blueberries all around the house.
In winter when a mantle of snow surrounds the house it is just as wonderful for winter walks and cross country skiing. There is also some downhill skiing approx.11/2 hours from Rajasse. All in all a great holiday can be had all year round. Please ask for extra photos and details of activities in the area and we will happily send these to you.
