Lower Colbiggan Farmhouse
Cottage | 1 bedrooms | sleeps 2
A characterful cottage set in it's own beautiful meadow at the end of a tree-lined lane, adjacent to the main farmhouse but very private. We are proud to offer you a unique holiday in central Cornwall, just a 20 minute car journey to either coast & only 10 minutes away from the famous Eden project. Almost all the furniture is handmade by the owner in a rustic style in keeping with the building, on a heart theme - a romantic getaway we think. Gather your own eggs in the morning laid by our free- range chickens & cook breakfast to eat on your terrace or sit & listen to the wildlife over a glass of wine around your own picnic table in the meadow. Cosy up in front of the wood burner in the winter months. If you have any leftover bread then call the chickens & watch them run across the grass to see you, hilarious to watch! We have 3 gorgeous moorland ponies who will come up & nuzzle you, especially if you have carrots or apples to hand :-)
You are welcome to bring your dog on holiday with you for a small extra fee. We are just a 5 minute walk from Retire Common, a 127 acre conservation area renowned for its rare breeds of butterflies - perfect for walking your dog or indeed a gentle stroll after your evening meal. We also have a spare stable so if you would like to come on holiday with your horse & enjoy the local countryside then please do contact us.
Want to bring a couple of friends & pitch a tent in your meadow? Again, this can be arranged for just £20 per night per tent - contact us for details. Although we only accommodate 2 adults you may of course bring your baby/young child at no extra charge as long as you are able to bring a travel cot. We welcome cyclists & walkers & secure storage is available in one of our outbuildings. Bikes can be hired nearby & they will deliver on the Friday before you arrive & collect from us the following Friday - see their website www.myresource.org.uk/bike-hire for details or phone them on 01208 269296.
If you are arriving by train then we would be happy to collect you from either Bodmin or St Austell station.
WiFi is available but please be advised that due to the rural location it is not always guaranteed - so frustrating for us :-( Therefore, if you were planning on working on holiday (why would you?!) then this may not always be possible!
Electricity & underfloor heating is included. A basketful of wood is included for the woodburner in winter with additional supplies available for a small extra charge.
We are here every day if you need any help with anything from ideas on where to eat or visit or if you just fancy coming across to join us for a chat. Usually wine in the fridge which we are quite happy to share!!
We love to cook here at Lower Colbiggan & you will be welcomed by a homemade cake of your choice & tea & coffee making facilities so you can put your feet up & relax as soon as you arrive. Water is from our own well here & we think it tastes amazing.
If you are thinking of booking with us just a point to bear in mind that is that the last 10 metres of the lane to the main house gate is not tarmacced so can be a little bumpy if you have a sports car that is low to the ground. Passable of course with care :-)
Check out time is 10 a.m. with arrival from 4.00 p.m onwards.
We hope to be able to welcome you soon.

"What a little Gem!"
Just back from a few days away at Lower Colbiggan and it was wonderful!
Debbie and Lee make you feel so welcome and the little touches are just lovely.
That chocolate and orange cake will take me weeks to work off!! :-)
The cottage is beautifully decorated and finished. The shower-room is small, but functional and clean. The kitchen is well equipped and has all the "mod-cons" required.
I loved the fact the ponies were just outside the door and the chickens were wondering around. The fresh eggs make the most wonderful breakfasts!
The wildlife around the cottage is fab. I sat and watched the birds (some of which I had to look up in a book to identify!) for hours.
Located down a tarmac track, there are some speed humps worth watching out for if you happen to have a slightly "towny" car like us! They are fine if you take very slowly!
It's a great location to visit all of the local attractions, Eden Project is just down the road, although shut when we went due to burst main! All the beautiful coastal resorts are also within easy reach.
All in all, we had a wonderful stay and Debbie and Lee really do go that extra mile to make you welcome! THANK YOU!

The guests arrived on the night of the worst storms to hit Cornwall since records began. We were not informed at any point during their stay that they were not happy until they decided to leave & only when we received a derogatory email did we find out that it was the mud that had been an issue - the weather is not something we can control, we live in a rural setting. Gravel had been washed away & was replaced as soon as practicable. On phoning the guests in response to the email in an effort to resolve matters, we were sworn at & threatened.
The shower room is small but perfectly serviceable and very clean & has never been an issue with other guests. Internet access is described in our listing as not to be relied on due to the rural location. The remoteness of our cottage is what we consider a bonus not a detraction.
We hope that potential guests will see that ALL our other reviews have received a 5 Star rating.

"Perfect relaxing break!"
It was a fantastic winter break with our 2 dogs, made so easy by the very accomodating hosts who were so welcoming, even baked us a lovely chocolate cake for our arrival, and couldn't have done more for us for during our stay.
The cottage sits on its own huge paddock but is totally secure so we could let our dogs run free without worry they might escape - and fortunately when the 3 ponies wondered up to the house, despite our dogs efforts to terrorise them, the ponies were not too put out! Although the cottage is 10 metres or so from the main house, it feels totally private.
Inside is very spacious yet very warm and cosy, especially when you get the fire roaring. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need and there was always instant hot water for very nice showers!
Although we had torrential rain more or less for the whole trip, we still found plenty of great villages and pubs 15 minutes away, and also its quite easy to leave the car at home and head out for walks that are right on the doorstep.
All in all, really can't fault our stay, it was so relaxing, in a beautiful setting with lovely hosts - next time we'd like to come back when there's a bit of sun!
Thanks a lot :)

Myself and my boyfriend stayed here from 27 Dec to 1 January! Lee and Debbie the owners of the cottage were most helpful and generous. Waking up to the chickens and ponies was lovely! There is lots to do around St Austell and surrounding towns but we also enjoyed just sitting in with the fire on. I would recommend to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday.

"Lovely relaxing break, gorgeous cottage and great owners!"
We really enjoyed our time at the cottage, from the moment we arrived we were made to feel incredibly welcome. We arrived late and received a warm welcome from Lee, after a long drive the roaring fire, homemade loaf of bread, fresh eggs and cake all made it seem worthwhile! The cottage is situated in a great location for getting around and seeing Cornwall and Lee and Debbie gave us some great advice regarding where to go and what to see. Our 4 day stay was exactly what we needed, a quiet break away from the stresses of London. Our new rescue dog Heather enjoyed her first holiday, she absolutely loved the farm, meeting the ponies/chickens and running on the beach (as she's probably never been before!) We left feeling like we wished we had stayed longer and already planning to stay again when we need another break and place to relax. We couldn't recommend this cottage enough, the farm, hosts and surrounding areas make it the perfect countryside get away. Would definitely recommend Constantine beach (beautiful) in St Austell with Rick Steins pub nearby for good grub! Helligan gardens for interesting walks (all dog friendly) Padstow is a beautiful little town and Rick Steins Seafood Restaurant is lovely (pricey but worth it!) Lots more nearby to see when we come back though!!
