Two pubs serving food are within walking distance, plus local shops. Charlestown, described as Britain's best preserved Georgian Port, is a five-minute drive to the south, and a country pub at Luxulyan is five minutes drive to the east. The West Country / Cornwall region
Cornwall's soft climate enables plants to flourish and its spectacular gardens, which are open to the public, are famous - Glendurgan, Trebah, Trelissick, to name a few. Smugglers' tales abound in Fowey - Daphne du Maurier captured the area's unique atmospher in some of the books she wrote while living there. The Camel Valley Vineyard, near Bodmin is making a name for itself, some of its wines are available at Rick Stein's famous Padstow restaurants. Gourmets are spolit for choice, with Nathan Outlaw's restaurant at The Marina Hotel, Fowey, making waves to rival those of Jamie Oliver's Watergate Bay restaurant, Fifteen. Steep wooded valleys contrast with the unfettered Bodmin Moor, and tall, craggy coastal cliffs give way to soft, golden sands. Most parts of the county are well-endowed with pubs offering excellent fare and a warm welcome. The Rashleigh Arms on the beach at Polkerris, about five miles from the flat, is a great place to watch the sun go down.
St Austell area
The Eden Project, at Bodelva, two miles away, is not to be missed - some of our guests visit it twice. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Mevagissey, are a huge attraction, and Pine Lodge Gardens, just a mile from The China Loft are fast making a name. The National Trust's Lanhydrock House, near Lostwithiel, is fascinating, as is Trerice, while privately owned Caerhayes Castle and Gardens, on the Roseland Peninsula has a unique atmosphere, facing a sandy cove. St Austell itself is currently undergoing regeneration, but can supply most day-to-day needs.

Further details indoors: This wonderful, tastefully furnished first floor apartment is in a converted china clay drying house, Pochin House, which still retains a tall chimney that reaches for the sky. The living room has laminate oak flooring with under-floor heating and a pair of comfy leather sofas, plus floor-to-ceiling windows to make the most of the view. Lamps help create a softer mood in the evening. The kitchen area has a built-in dish-washer, fridge-freezer, washer-drier, and double oven, a ceramic hob, and ample crocks and pots. A circular dining table comfortably sits four to six, but extends if required. The family bathroom has a shower over the bath. The main bedroom has a double bed, ensuite shower/w.c., wardrobe with drawers, chest of drawers, three-drawer bedside cupboards, bedside lamps and a clock radio. The second bedroom has wooden bunks with a four feet lower bunk and a three-feet upper bunk. A small wardrobe and chest of drawers provide storage, and there is further cupboard space in the living room.
Further details outdoors: Pochin House is entered via electronic gates, and has its own dedicated parking space at the rear of the property. A communal lawned area is in front of the property, and we provide folding garden chairs for our guests to relax in. The complex backs onto a nature reserve, behind which is a public footpath affording a pleasant rural walk, and a roadside footpath leading to the Carclaze pub. A bus to the Eden Project regularly runs past Pochin Drive, and will stop on request.
