Enquire nowThe West Country / Cornwall region
Cornwall is a beautiful county with rugged coastline and stunning beaches. It has a mild climate due to the gulf stream and a relaxed way of life. It is a place where you can just unwind and enjoy the environment or, if you wish take part in numerous leisure activities.
The St Austell / Porthpean area
St Austell is home to the historic China Clay industry however it is a market town which has become well known through immense public interest in The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Eden project.
In the town itself there is a cinema, award winning family run brewery, ten pin bowling, leisure centre, beautiful Parish church and shops.
The local area has much to visit. The historic Charlestown harbour is five minutes by car from the cottage. There you will find Square Sail Ships, gift and tea shops, pubs, restaurants and a Shipwreck museum. People like to fish from the harbour wall or sit outside the pubs and watch the world go by. It is often used as a location for films.
There are picturesque fishing villages nearby such as Fowey and Mevagissey and many sporting opportunities. There is a plethoria of pubs selling local beers and good food.

We had 2 wonderful weeks in this beautiful house. The house is spacious but cosy and comfortable, and feels like a real home. Everything you need is there, and we loved the library with all the books. The view is amazing. Porthpean beach is just a few minutes walk and is very nice. The coastal path makes for great walking, and we went to play golf everyday on the nearbij (adjacent!) porthpean golf club, which was very pretty & great for family golf. And again...amazing views! St Austell is close, for shopping and other practicalities. The north coast beaches are just a half hour drive, and lots of other great places to visit are pretty close. We especially loved the lost gardens of heligan, very, very pretty. Waking up in the morning, you don't hear anything at all! Just the occasional seagull or buzzard. It's wonderfully relaxing and peaceful. We really felt a bit sad leaving after 2 weeks, something that doesn't happen very often when staying in a holiday home...but this place was really special!! Difficult to describe, but wonderful! In fact...it's better then the pictures promise! We'd love to come back some time..... |
