About the home

Very well equipped villa on a small holiday complex in quiet village 3 kms from sea consisting of an open-plan living area with all modern facilities. A double bedroom downstairs with adjoining bath and toilet also accessible from living area. Pine staircase leading to L-shaped mezannine with bunk beds and two singles. Large double bedroom and separate shower room with toilet. There is a large communal swimming pool with a shallow stepped end for small children. We hope to have wifi installed in April 2012.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente Maritime region

St Augustin sur Mer is a small, peaceful village situated 3 kms from the sea in between the forest and the Marais (dykes). Within a few minutes drive you can reach Royan Golf Course, also accommodating a separate 9 hole course).

La Palmyre Zoo is said to be one of the best in Europe and is certainly worthwhile a visit with or without children. Tree climbing in pine forests and pony treking are available.

There are numerous places of interest to visit within a short drive. Mornac, Saintes, Brouage and Talmont all have historic connotations.

French markets abound with all local produce and are a great attraction.

This particular area is reputed to have a micro-climate with less rainfall and higher temperatures.

The St Augustin sur Mer area

St Augustin sur Mer is a small, peaceful village situated 3 kms from the sea in between the forest and the Marais (dykes). The terrain is overall flat interspersed with cycle tracks. You can cycle through the forest to the sea going under the main road. There are few cars in the Marais so cyling there with an abundance of wild life is idyllic. (Bicycles can be hired from many local shops).

The main industry is oysters and seafood. La Tremblade, a short drive away, with its oyster beds and restaurants must be seen. There are mouclade (mussels) festivals in August.

There is a nearby chateau at St George de Didon or you can take the ferry from Royan to the Medoc and sample some of the chateaus there with all the scenery.
