Home description

"Au bord de L'Eau" overlooks the Aveyron river. Situated in a pretty garden with it's own private terrace it is the ideal location for exploring both St Antonin Noble Val and the surrounding area. Great for those who want to enjoy all that this region has to offer: cycling, hiking, canoeing, rock climbing, fishing and birdwatching to name a few activities. Maybe visit the Sunday farmer's market , sample the delights of the restaurants and cafes in the village, explore ruined castles and gothic cathedrals nearby or join in with one of the many local festivals.

A great plus of this property is that all most of the above activities are in the village of St Antonin so there's no need to worry about who drives home or where to find a parking space!

The Midi-Pyrenees / Tarn-et-Garonne region

Saint Antonin Noble Val is truly one of the most picture perfect in France. Unspoiled by modern influences, the town sits in a spectacular location beside the towering Roc d’Anglars in the valley of the River Aveyron. The buildings of the town are traditional and extremely pretty, with red tiled sloping rooftops and old mellow stone walls soaking up the warm sun which blesses the region for much of the time.

It is hardly surprising that Saint Antonin was chosen for a film set, as when you conjure up an image of a classic French village in your head, it is Saint Antonin that comes to mind. The broad sweep of the lovely River Aveyron adds to this tranquil atmosphere, and keeps the countryside lush, green and fertile.

Saint Antonin is justifiably famous for its superb Sunday market, where local produce and handicrafts are always on sale. It’s a great social occasion too! There are some good restaurants for those long lazy evenings when you don’t want to cook, and eating out is a good way of meeting the local people and enjoying the many gastronomic specialities of the area.

St Antonin Noble Val area

In the village there is access to a number of outdoor cenntres - biking, canoeing (spend a day rafting down the Averyon and navigate 5 weirs as well as the shute!), rock climbing, hang-gliding etc. as well as an open air pool (June to Aug)

3km from the village there is the Grotte de Bosc - an exhiliratingly narrow cave to explore

20km away you'll find
-Parisot lake - A large area for all the family to relax in. Regular special events in summer.
-Beaulieu Abbey - A former Cistercian Abbey, now restored and well worth a visit to the cloisters, main church, contemporary art gallery and regular musical events in the summer.

25 / 30km away
-Cordes sur Ciel (of the sky)c - a dramatic village perched high up on a hill wwith regular summer events and night markets.
-Najac - visit this runied chateau which is balanced precariously over the clff edge.

Further afield - 35 - 40km
-Albi - home to the Toulouse Lautrec Museum and enormous Cathedral
-Cahors - a town which sits on a oxbow bend in the river with stunning buildings and bridges to explore.
Gaillac and Cahors vinyards
80km
-Toulouse - La Ville en Rose a marvelous place to spend the day either wandering through the streets, walking a part of the midi canal or visiting one of the numerous tourist attractions.

Throughout the year there are a whole host of festivals to go to:
A few are:

Fête de la Musique - 21st June - a country wide festival whcih celebrates the true diversity of music (St Antonin's is 3 minutes from the studio!)
Fête des Battages - 1st weekend in August - a day long festival of traditional farming techniques culminating in a 6 course open air meal.
Fête de la pomme - Sept - where you can make you own apple juice!
Fêtes Médiévales - July - a weekend long festival in nearby Corde sur Ciel which includes all manner of medieval activities
Fête de N'Oeuf - an Easter festival with over one hundred 70cm tall eggs decorated by local artisans and businesses and displayed through the cobbled streets.

Plus during the summer months each village has it's own week long summer festival which can include drama, night markets, outdoor discos and generally a firework display. In the village of St Antonin the festival is in August and has a magnificent firework display over the Averyron river.
