About the home

A superb private farmhouse with a fabulous pool area, this large 4 bedroom property sits within 2.5 acres of grounds bordered by pastureland and woodland with a distinct lack of neighbours. Surrounded by mature trees providing shade throughout those long hot summer days this is an idylic and popular holiday retreat.

Recently renovated to a high standard, the house retains many of its original features; oak beams, vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework. The most stunning feature of the property and perhaps the most important for summer holiday-makers is the pool and surrounding gardens which spread around the property on different levels.

There are many hidden corners with plenty of natural shade from numerous mature trees, so you will be spoilt for choice in finding a quiet, interesting hideaway. There is an orchard and herb garden in the grounds so you can enjoy the fruit and various herbs that are in season.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Tarn-et-Garonne region

Nearby are Medieval villages, Bastide towns, Chateaux, Abbeys, Churches and magnificent natural sites of outstanding beauty; whether it be wooded valleys or the meandering River Aveyron with its dramatic gorges.

Within easy driving distance there are a large number of restaurants to cater for all budgets. Supermarkeets are nearby to meet all you in-house catering needs although the famous rural markets provide most of the seasonal delights whether this be the local fois gras, confit or the wines from cahor or gaillac.

The St Antonin Noble Val area

St Antonin Noble Val, high on the south facing slopes of the Aveyron Gorge in the tarn et garonne. Nearby are Cordes, Najac, Penne , Bruniquel and Albi all in the Midi Pyrennes. The adjoining countryside is also ideal for exploratory walks and discovering the magnificent butterflies and birdlife . A haven for nature lovers.

Ideally situated 6 kms from St.Antonin with access to many interesting villages , towns and local 'Fetes', restaurants, shops and the renowned traditional markets. The vineyards of Gaillac are 25 minutes and Cahor is 30 minutes, both have numerous caves for buying and sampling the local wines.

ACTIVITIES
Horse riding, canoeing, fishing, rail trips, rock climbing, wine tasting, museums, pot-holing, tennis and of course walking. Golf is available at Albi (18-hole delightful course; approximately 50 minutes by car), where there is also a water-park for children. An afternoon's excursion by canoe through the Aveyron Gorge is considered a 'must' by nearly all guests.

A number of local villages and towns have interesting and colourful markets. (NB: Be sure not to miss the local market in St Antonin held on SUNDAY mornings), and Villefrance on thursdays.

EXCURSIONS BY CAR
Within short driving distances, excursions can also be made to a number of fascinating towns and villages including Cordes, Albi, Najac, Cahors, Penne and Bruniquel, all of which are well worth a visit. For longer trips you have Carcassone , 2 hrs and the coast 2 1/2 hrs.

This secluded property is approximately a day's drive from the Channel Ports and only just over 1hr from Toulouse Airport, which has daily flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Southampton, Manchester, Dublin, Bristol, Stansted and numerous flights from regional airports connecting with Amsterdam or Brussels and then onwards to Toulouse.

Carcasonne, just an hour south of Toulouse, is another alternative with often very much cheaper fares.

Rodez is about 1 hr.

“Well managed rustic property with mod cons and character.” We knew Les Rieux was going to be a great house as we drove down the winding well made road - it was just the right distance between civilisation and isolation. We were not disappointed ; the lovely smell of old wood when we entered, the spacious rooms with large windows (because the house is on a slope the ground floor lounge has a first floor view) and the nicely kept garden. There were several secluded spots around the house and garden where you could 'escape' - handy when you have teanagers - and the garden above the house was alive with butterflies. We picked Les Rieux partly for its location. We went kayaking at St. Antonin, acrobranching at Montauban, spent 2 glorious days at Cap Decouverte and, whilst the children slept, we explored the markets at St.Antonin and Villafranche and enjoyed the views at La Cirque Popie. After all this activity we returned to the lovely pool (deep enough to dive in) and generally relaxed in our home from home. The management of Les Rieux is excellent and ensured both the preparation and stay allowed us to fully enjoy our week away. “Lovely property with fantastic pool.” We had a fantastic holiday at Les Rieux and spent a lot of time in the wonderful heated pool - one of our favourite aspects of the property, being so close to the house and surrounded by shady areas for sitting and eating. We ate mostly outside on the beautiful balcony, and had high chairs provided for the kids. The house was clean and tidy, and mostly comfortable although the limited height of one of the twin rooms did cause some back problems! The very friendly Englishman who services the property and pool was both informative about the area, and extremely helpful in enabling us to find an emergency dentist - great to have local knowledge on hand. The nearby town was great for all the basics you need and the surrounding area was gorgeous - we'll be back! “Fantastic property, perfect for relaxing holiday” We have just returned from a week at Le Rieux. The picturesque property was a perfect base to explore this lovely unspoilt part of France. The house was very well equipped and spotlessly clean. There was plenty space for 2 families to spread out and a variety of tables and chairs in different parts of the property to eat in the sun or shade as required. The pool was large and very clean.
