The Fife region

Whilst bustling St Andrews with its golf courses, history, beaches, shops and restaurants is the focus for many visitors, the whole of North East Fife is an astonishingly attractive part of Scotland. For those seeking more peace and tranquillity, the old market town of Cupar in the centre of the fertile Howe of Fife and the surrounding tiny villages with their red pantiled roofs are very much worth visiting. The light, the benign climate and the uncrowded sense of space adds a restfulness to those who seek it. Round the coast the famous fishing villages of Crail, Pittenweem and Anstruther are an artist's delight. Take a tour and you are sure to be enchanted.

The courses of St Andrews are naturally a Mecca for golfers but Fife boasts around 50 golf courses in all, most less prestigious perhaps but interesting and much less expensive

St Andrews

Strathkinness is an attractive wee village on the outskirts of St Andrews. It has a big sky and open outlooks to the north. No more than 200yds along the High Road from our cottage is the Strathkinness Tavern where you will find a warm welcome, real ale and excellent meals. There is a shop, a church and a sense of community. If feeling reasonably energetic, St Andrews is walkable and the village sits within the Fife cycle network. For children is there is a large grassy playpark with swings etc 50yds along the High Road. Nearby, and unmissable if you're under 10, is Craigtoun Country Park with trampolines, rowing pond, miniature railway and more.
