Village
La Pendarie is part of the cosy and silent hamlet of Saint André de Najac (500 m). In the silent hamlet at 5 minutes walking from La Pendarie there is a sympathic restaurant called Mont Le Viaur and a grocery store with fresh French bread, meat, cheese, vegetables and the first necessities. In La Foullade (6km) there is a big Inter Marche. The bakery comes down to La Pendarie on Tuesdays and Saturdays around 10 o’clock in the morning. You can play tennis at the well conditioned tennis court in the village and enjoy a Pastis (or a Guinness) afterwards at La Croix Grande a bar with a terrace covered with wine grapes (open from Thursday-Sunday from 18.00).
In one of the valleys next to the village, the Viaur river gives you romantic and quiet pick nick and swimming spots but also a Jazzy crêperie with life music under the stars, every single summer night in July and August.

The Midi-Pyrenees / Aveyron region

Region
In the Aveyron you can experience the true flavour of France in this easy-going and cicadas, where sunflowers and lavender grow and old men play boules in shady villages. It’s a region full of contrasts, from sun-parched plains to vineyards, under brilliant blue skies. The countryside is spectacular and ideal for an active outdoor walking and riding through national parks, grand randonnées, and in the area where the rivers Aveyron, Viaur and Garonne meet. Throughout the summer every village has an annual fête with its own pageantry. You will be very welcome. Some of them include the September Wine Harvest.
Najac, Laguepie and Villefranche have well equipped Tourist information offices, guidebooks are available in the gîte and the owners are very willing to help you if you should have any questions.
Food & wine
The regional cuisine is rich with garlic and olive oil, duck, spicy sausages, a wide range of local cheeses like Roquefort and Chèvre, the famous foie-gras and salades Aveyronnaises. It’s an excellent wine producing region with names as Gaillac, Minervois, Cahors, Corbières and Marcillac.
The St Andre de Najac area
In Saint Andre de Najac (0.5 km) you will find the nice restaurant Mont Le Viaur, the Bar La Croix Grande and the Vival grocery store. More shops and nice restaurants are at La Fouillade (6 km), Laguepie (8 km) or at the very picturesque Najac (6.5 km). In La Fouillade there is a big Inter Marche. Najac clings to the rocky outcrop overlooking the splendid gorges of Aveyron river and is particularly lovely at night with illuminated castle. A wide choice of shops at Villefranche de Rouergue (24 km) with the famous and large Thursday market in the fine arcaded square. Almost every day of the week there are markets in one of the villages around Saint André de Najac. Through out the summer, brocantes are held in different villages nearby.
This beautiful region has sunny green hillsides, cool valleys with a Mediterranean feel, and unique light. Take a nice walk down to the Sérène river (at 700 m from La Pendarie) with it’s nice cascades, walk or mountain bike parts of the grand randonnée which passes by La Pendarie or take a ride and visit the towns such as Najac (only 6.5 km!), Cordes-sur-Ciel (23 km), art village ‘in-the-sky’, perched on a hilltop and with charming narrow winded streets and houses, or medieval St Antonin-Noble-Val with its fine limestone cliffs (34 km). Swimming at the Viaur river (2 km). Canoeing on the Aveyron river through its gorges, starting point Laguepie (8 km). Golf at Albi (48 km) or visit the mellow city with its world famous pink-red cathedral and Toulouse-Lautrec collection. Do some wine tasting in at different wine chateaux in the Gaillac region. Rocamadour is at reach (100 km).
