La Pendarie is part of the cosy and silent hamlet of Saint André de Najac (500 m). In the picturesque village, at 5 minutes walking from La Pendarie, there is a sympathic restaurant called 'Mont Le Viaur' and a grocery store with fresh French bread, meat, cheese, vegetables and the first necessities. Mont Viaur is also the place to drink or buy fantastic wines, since the chef & shop owner is a passionate sommelier as well. In La Fouillade (6km) there is a big Inter Marche. The bakery comes down to La Pendarie on Tuesdays and Saturdays around 10 o'clock in the morning. You can play tennis at the well conditioned tennis court in the village and enjoy a Pastis afterwards at 'Mont le Viaur' . Or have a draught Guinness in the bar 'Le Croix Grande ' with its terrace covered with wine grapes.
In one of the valleys next to the village, the Viaur river gives you romantic and quiet pick nick and swimming spots but also a Jazzy crêperie 'La Chataigneraie' with life music under the stars, every single summer night in July and August.
The Midi-Pyrénées region
In the Aveyron you can experience the true flavour of France in this easy-going and cicadas, where sunflowers and lavender grow and old men play boules in shady villages. It's a region full of contrasts, from sun-parched plains to vineyards, under brilliant blue skies. The countryside is spectacular and ideal for an active outdoor walking and riding through national parks, grandes randonnees and in the area where the rivers Aveyron, Viaur and Garonne meet. Throughout the summer every village has an annual fete with its own pageantry. You will be very welcome. Some of them include the September Wine Harvest.
Najac, Laguepie and Villefranche have well equipped Tourist information offices, guidebooks are available in the gite and the owners are very willing to help you if you should have any questions.
Food & wine
The regional cuisine is rich with garlic and olive oil, duck, spicy sausages, a wide range of local cheeses like Roquefort and Chevre, the famous foie-gras and salades Aveyronnaises. It is an excellent wine producing region with names as Gaillac, Minervois, Cahors, Corbieres and Marcillac.
In Saint Andre de Najac (0.5 km) you will find the nice restaurant Mont Le Viaur, the Bar Le Cobaye and the Vival grocery store. More shops and nice restaurants are at La Fouillade (6 km), Laguepie (8 km) or at the very picturesque Najac (6.5 km). In La Fouillade there is a big Inter Marche. Najac clings to the rocky outcrop overlooking the splendid gorges of Aveyron river and is particularly lovely at night with illuminated castle. A wide choice of shops at Villefranche de Rouergue (24 km) with the famous and large Thursday market in the fine arcaded square. Almost every day of the week there are markets in one of the villages around Saint Andre de Najac. Throughout the summer, brocantes are held in different villages nearby.
This beautiful region has sunny green hillsides, cool valleys with a Mediterranean feel, and unique light. Take a nice walk down to the Serene river (at 700 m from La Pendarie) with its nice cascades, walk or mountain bike parts of the grande randonnee which passes by La Pendarie or take a ride and visit the towns such as Najac (only 6.5 km!) or Cordes-sur-Ciel (23 km), art village in-the-sky, perched on a hilltop and with charming narrow winded streets and houses,.
And do not forget to go the to market in medevial St Antonin-Noble-Val where the movie The Hundred-Foot Journey was filmed! It is only 30 minutes driving. Its fine limestone cliffs are worth admiring as well. You can go swimming in the Viaur river (2 km). Canoeing on the Aveyron river through its gorges, starting point Laguepie (8 km). Golf at Albi (48 km) or visit the mellow city with its world famous pink-red cathedral and Toulouse-Lautrec collection. Do some wine tasting in at different wine chateaux in the Gaillac region. Rocamadour is at reach (100 km).

"Another perfect week at La Pendarie....!"
This was our second stay at La Pendarie and although it can be unlikely to get the same feeling as your first visit, that certainly was not the case. It really is the perfect spot for a quiet relaxing break and Ronald and Marjolean again made us very welcome. The one outstanding memory for this stay was returning one evening from a local restaurant to find a crystal clear sky filled with zillians of stars !. It was so clear that the constellations could not easily be made out and the 'milky way' appeared in it's glory like we've never seen it before.....didn't want the moment to end !. Anyway we can't recommend this property enough and it will always remain one of our favourite locations.

"The perfect place to relax !"
La Panderie was the perfect place for us to relax. We only stayed for one week but the magic of the place hit us from the first moment we arrived. The Gite is situated in a perfect location nestled on the hill side with views across the rolling fields. The three storey stone built cottage is extremely private and quiet and at night with a clear star filled sky it is easy to feel a million miles away from the bustle of life back home. The owners & neighbours Ronald & Marjolein have equipped the property with more or less everything you are going to need. Provisions are available locally or you can eat out at any of the quality restaurants situated in nearby villages and towns. The region is quite simply beautiful and full of wild flowers, butterflies, bee's and birds. We loved it !........and of course there was Koekie ! See you next year !

"A peaceful and beautiful place to relax and unwind."
We were warmly welcomed to La Pendarie and had a most enjoyable week exploring the area (mostly on bikes) and relaxing by the stunning pool. Our hosts ensured our comfort at all times but did not intrude in any way. The gardens were beautiful, particularly the lavender alongside the pool and the extensive views fabulous........it was a really lovely place to stay.

"Hands down, the nicest holiday accommodation we have ever had!"
La Pendarie was our pick to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary, and what a great choice it was! We enjoyed a very welcoming reception from Ronald, Marjolein and Koekie upon our arrival. The fantastic views from the terrace were enjoyed with regional wine & cheese and a BBQ, or from the poolside lined with lavender! Ronald & Marjolein are sensitive to the needs of their guests as the gite was equipped with everything you could possibly need, and the extra touches they offered were much appreciated. The farmhouse itself contains a captivating charm, and the property has been designed to gain the most from the beautiful rolling landscape. Thank you for providing us with such a wonderful stay for our very special occasion.
