Home description

Bernard and Malika Gelibert give a personal welcome to their gite, a former barn which has been converted into a high quality holiday rental. The property has retained the Charantais stone walls and oak beams and can accommodate up to 6 people in three double bedrooms,with outdoor swimming pool ,garden,patio and private parking.
The small hamlet is surrounded by farmland and woods with many lanes ideal for walking or cycling.Nearby are many attractions and small typical French villages.

The Poitou-Charentes / Vendee / Charente region

The Charente is one of the sunniest regions of France with long hot summers.Famous for Cognac but also produces the lesser known Pineau de Charente,a local wine similar to Sherry.
The chateaux of Bayers and La Rochfoucauld are open to the public,wander round the old walled city of Angouleme with many pavement cafes,or visit the distilleries at Cognac.Futoroscope for all the family is a great day out,or Monkey valley .
The national resistance monument is nearby as is Oradour sur Glane ,the martyrs village.The beaches at Royan and La Rochelle are about 2hrs drive.

St Amant de Bonnieure area

Set in the rolling Charente countryside,St Amant de Bonnieure is a tiny commune set on the banks of the Bonnieure river.Cycle or walk along the quiet country lanes,lounge by the pool,BBQ on the patio and sip a glass of wine while watching the sun set.
If you are feeling active try canoes on the river,the velo rail or the adventure park at the lakes.
Markets are held most weekends,and their are a good choice of restaurants in the vicinity .
The circuit de ramparts is held every September at Angouleme(vintage racing cars),the Blues festival at Cognac or the Folk festival at Confolens in August.

How to get there

Les Blondeaux is situated in the small hamlet of Le Chatenet,St Amant de Bonnieure in the Charente region of France. Travelling by air, Ryanair now fly to Angouleme airport a 15 minute drive away .Limoges airport is a one hour drive with flights from many UK airports Poitiers airport is also a one hour drive with flights from Stansted.
Car hire is available at all the airports.
By car it is mainly dual carraigway,motorway from any of the ferry ports.

This immaculate barn conversion has many of the original features but with modern facilities.
The dining kitchen is fully equipped with all cooking facilities and a large traditional oak farmhouse table
Next to this is a large lounge with a lounge suite, television receiving BBC and ITVand DVD player.
Both lounge and kitchen area have exposed stone walls,beamed ceilings and teracotta tiled floor.
From the lounge area are patio doors to both the front and rear of the property.
Up stairs are 3 large bedrooms all with double beds,wardrobes and bedside tables
Also on the upper floor is the bathroom with bath/shower and washhand basin and a separate WC.

Further details outdoors:
To the front of the property is an enclosed courtyard with covered car parking.
At the rear is a large patio area with garden table and chairs and a BBQ for dining al fresco.
From the patio wonderful sunsets are common.
Leading from the patio is the garden with swings and slide for the children.
Also at the rear of the property and enjoying sun for most of the day is the 10mtr by 5mtr swimming pool,with sunloungers for relaxation,fenced for safety reasons

A high chair and cot can be provided at no extra charge but we ask that bed linen for the cot be provided by the renters.

Conditions

A security deposit of 300 euros is payable on arrival and is refunded on departure.
Well behaved dogs are accepted by prior arrangement.
Children must be supervised at all times in the swimming pool area
A deposit of 25% is required with the balance payable on arrival.

What a fantastic holiday Bernard Malika really welcoming and the hamlet a real piece of real French life.
We found the area really central for sightseeing Angouleme Poitiers Bordeaux and Cognac La Rochelle is well worth a visit
