The West country is an ideal holiday destination, especially Cornwall. Cornwall has a diverse landscape and two very different coastlines which are only an hour apart from eachother. There is wide variety of things to entertain all the family no matter what the weather.
Sailing, surfing, bike riding, horse riding, kite surfing, walking, hiking, golf and swimming are just some of the sporting acitivities available. There is also a strong cultural side to Cornwall and many fantastic art, pottery and photographic galleries to see.
Cornwall also has a wonderful celtic history to view and some beautiful and inspiring gardens to sea. There are also the many family attractions such as Flambards,Dairy lands, Nappa Valley Steam Railway and Eden Project to mention a few
The St Agnes / Wheal Kitty area
St Agnes is a beautiful little village, rich in history and housing a very special community. It is set on the North coast, surrounded by some of Cornwall’s most stunning landscapes and coastline. The beacon rises up behind St Agnes and from the cliffs one can survey up to and past Perran Sands and down to St Ives. There are several beaches boasting golden sands, great surf, craggy coastlines and tidal rock pools. You can walk to Travaunance Cove, being the nearest beach. Chapel Porth beach is a 5 minute drive away and Porthtowan beach a 10minute drive. All are all patrolled by lifeguards from Easter to October and have great facilities including beach bars / restaurants and surfboard hire.
St Agnes has a wonderfully vibrant atmosphere and a strong friendly community spirit celebrating a wealth of local heritage. One, not to be missed, yearly event is the lively local Carnival during the first week of August but there is fun to be had all year round. There are some superb restaurants; serving yummy food, several good pubs; often playing live music and some interesting galleries perfect for the art hunter.
St Agnes is in mid Cornwall, on the North coast and is a perfect starting place from which to explore Cornwall. The cathedral town of Truro is only 8 miles away, Newquay and St Ives are a short 30 minute drive and Falmouth and the South Coast are a mere 40 minutes away.

This is a really lovely house spread over three floors and everything is clean and modern with 2 beautiful bathrooms. We were a party of 8, ranging in ages from 2 to 73. However, the top floor is accessed by a very steep and incredibly narrow stairs which the (very fit and slim for her age) 73 year old found challenging and I considered to be dangerous for the children. The small patio at the front of the house opens directly onto a busy road so we found it difficult to negotiate . with a buggy and surf/body boards . Also parking can be difficult as there is no dedicated parking space for the property. The village is VERY hilly and the walk to the beach is fine on the way down, but after a few hours on the beach, the walk uphill with tired children and all their bits almost took the good out of the daily trip. We all agreed that the property is lovely but more suitable for a group of adults. |
